I don't think this is the big "gotcha" that you were looking for.

Sami Mitchell's claim to fame was coaching the Raptors from 04 - 09 where he had a win loss record of 185 wins and 242 loses. You're telling me is is better at developing a player than a top college coach is?

His W/L record as a head coach in the NBA likely doesn't have much to do with his ability to develop players.

What does this have to do with anything?

People invest money into all sorts of things.

Again with this - Calapari and Pitino have losing overall records in the NBA as well, yet you are carrying a torch for them.

Such a strange hill to want to die on. Aside from Sexton and Wallace has Alabama ever signed a player who would have been a candidate to go this route had it been available to them? Maybe Hendrix? He was a top 10 recruit but despite being a great college player he stayed for 4 years, so very doubtful he'd have done this. The whole thing will have zero effect on Alabama basketball, and this dude is arguing against it like it is a clear and present threat to the survival of our program. Kentucky and Duke are the ones who are going to be recruiting against the G-League. Not us.

I agree with all of this. I'll go a step further. I hate the one and done. If the G league pulls every single one of those guys so that you actually have some stability IMO that will make college basketball BETTER.

IMO, some of the worst years of college basketball were the early aughts when there was an uptick of kids jumping straight to the NBA.

I agree that the big time programs are affected more from a recruiting standpoint, but the game takes a hit in producing watered down basketball.

A year of Anthony Davis, Collin Sexton, or Zion Williamson is far better than a year without. I hear your argument about stability, but thinking a Wichita St.-esque team is the best that there is in college basketball is not better, IMO.

Get rid of the one and done. But if you choose college, just like football, you are committed for 3 years. In the end, that would be better for college basketball.

Lol no.

Theu should get to decide when they want to leave. It's not only what is better for the University that matters.

Zion made himself a fortune by playing for Duke. I dont think he could have produced that kind of name recognition, playing in that G league. I will sit in front of the TV and watch some college bball games than Alabama, but there is zero chance I will watch the "G league" I would rather go outside and work in the yard.

He wasn't drafted #1 overall because of his name recognition or what he did in college basketball last year. He was drafted #1 because he was largely a man among children in his draft class and in the mold of a bonafide superstar with incredible potential.

None of that would have been different if he skipped Duke and went to the Select Team imo.

Florida has two CB's for Kowacie Reeves.

We were recruiting him for a while not that long ago, but he recently released his top list and we weren't on it. Looks like a really solid player.

Yea, but he built up his name recognition--and a huge difference in his endorsement potential by playing twice a week on National TV while in college. The dude signed a 75 million dollar shoe deal--largest in nba history. I have heard others talk about how much his name and likeness was worth because he played college bball. He is also a huge instant draw for the nba.

Is it safer to..

Option 1: Cut Galin now, have 2 open Big-Man spots after next season (Reese & Bruners spots), then have Javian coming back as a Junior...

OR

Option 2: Cut Javian now, have 3 open Big-Man spots after next season (Reese, Bruner, & Galins spots), and have 0 returning Bigs.

I like option 1.
