Here are the short Evaluation snippets on all of our incoming guys and 2019 class guys (Name, Projection). Rojas, Quinerly and Ellis did not have a write-ups, FYI.
quote:
JADEN SHACKELFORD : Power 5 Starter
A quick athlete with average size, at best. Quick with the basketball, but not a leaper at the rim. Scoring-oriented guard with a dangerous pull-up jumper who can make a slick pass. A good lefty shooter with some range. Needs to get stronger and more physical on the defensive end.
quote:
JAYLEN FORBES: Power 5 Starter
Decent size for a shooting guard. Not an explosive athlete, but a smooth player with great body control. A tremendous shooter with an effortless release. Can score off the dribble or the catch. Needs only a small window from defender to score. Needs to get stronger. Solid all-around skill set but niche is scoring. Average defender and rebounder. Should be a multi-year starter in college.
quote:
JUWAN GARY: UFA (NBA)
A strong and physical athlete. Seeks out contact and is explosive in traffic. An effective slashing scorer. Can score off pull-up and has potential to be a respectable 3-point shooter. Not a playmaker as a passer. Plays hard defensively and is a multi-positional defender. Rebounds his position well.
quote:
DARIUS MILES : Power-5 Starter
Has a long and lanky build for a wing player. A smooth athlete with leaping ability. Not an explosive athlete in traffic. Has a finesse, skilled finishing game. Has a smooth lefty shooting stroke. Can make unorthodox shots off the dribble. Not a playmaker off the dribble. Uses the bounce to get his shot. Not a physical defender or rebounder at this point. Viewed as a player with upside with development.
quote:
KEON AMBROSE-HYLTON : Power-5 Starter
An intriguing long-term prospect because of his combination of size, length, mobility, athleticism and skill. He has fine size for the position, moves fluidly and has a versatile all-around game that allows him to play inside and out. Prefers to play on the perimeter, as he’s able to stretch the floor with his jump shot. He can also snag rebounds and is skilled enough to start the break. The next step in his development is becoming a more consistent shooter, adding strength and staying locked in at all times.
quote:
JOSH PRIMO : 1st Round (NBA)
Versatile guard who is more of a secondary ball handler right now but should be a playmaker who can score and create regardless of position. Has smooth stroke with ability to hit shots off the catch and pull from both midrange and three. Also has impressive touch on floater. Changes speeds well off bounce. High feel usually aids his shot selection; doesn’t typically force too many bad shots. Combination of size, long/lean frame and feel give him potential as a multi-positional defender as he gets stronger. Has pretty safe floor to go with a very high upside given his potential on both sides of the court. High major starter with normal continued development.

He is probably gonna play g/f here and does need to put on some weight. I think he plays some this year. He is really versatile.

If things work out the way they should (aka no catastrophic injury luck), then you would hope guys like Miles and even Ambrose will be able to work their way into playing and not be relied upon for much the first few months of the season.
Transfers (1-2) + getting back Rojas/Gary and returning other guys (Quinerly, Shack, Davis, Herb, Ellis) will hopefully mean a couple of these not yet ready freshman (like Forbes was last year) won't be pressed into major action when they aren't physically ready for it yet.

But that has nothing to do with anything as everyone that follows basketball knew Smith was going pro and will be a first round pick.

Harper, what do you think the plan is for backup PG? Especially if we use our last spot on Muhammad and he has to sit for a year.

The Sexton year we were 8th.

That class was nowhere near what we thought.
Sexton lived up to his hype.
Took Petty and Herb a coaching change to live up to their potential
And then Galin and Reese.........LOL.

Yeah that part of it didn't make sense, everyone knew that Smith was gonna enter the draft.

Galin was ranked #274. Stop acting like we had high expectations or something
Posted on 4/7/20 at 4:25 pm to Crimsontide1713
That Class we did have High Expectations for. Everybody here was saying Elite Eight with that Sexton team in the preseason.

The class was good. The coaching they got was shite.

We had no spacing, the offense was horrid. No one could make a jumper outside of 10-feet.
Sexton was a legend.
Petty got hot once every 8 games.
Herb, Donta, Giddens, Dazon, Avery Jr, Reese, Galin didn’t need to be guarded if they were standing 10 feet or more from the basket..
Something was wrong with Braxton Key.
Riley Norris was out hurt.
