The initial best case scenario Byrne stated when this first got announced was after the 2021-2022 season. This seems like melting just to melt.

Yeah it was always going to take a backseat to BDS, and the BDS renovation has undergone a lot of changes, which probably pushed the timetable on it back and as a result pushed the timetable back on everything else.

BDS doesn’t need a fricking renovation as bad as we need a new arena. frick putting another crust of diamonds on BDS and put the money where it’s needed. This has gotten out of control. The FOGs need to be told to STFU.

Well you can have it one of two ways. Either they make the pitch of "give us $10 and $6.50 of it will go to football facilities improvements" and get the $10, or they make the pitch of "give us $10 and $6.50 of it will go to non-football facilities improvements with the leftovers going to football" and get $0. It sucks that we have so many fans and boosters who have that mindset, but we do and bitching to Byrne about it won't change that. I'm sure he's well aware of the challenges he's faced with in terms of fundraising and is just as frustrated about it as anyone.

Someone asked Byrne why not just build a new arena and this was his response:

FOG's?. Saban spends a lot of money. Alot. He's in charge. If he wanted a new basketball arena, they'd break ground in the morning if he insisted.
