Meh, the NCAA cleared Sexton to come back after one game. We'll be fine

That was before texts from Dawkins claiming $5,000 down and $1,500 a month in payments to Sexton were introduced as evidence in federal court. We are not in Louisville’s position but we can in no way consider ourselves completely in the clear. Anybody who had their name come up in this has reason to worry.

Can you imagine the disappointment if we somehow got hit with like a 2 year postseason ban for Oats’ first two seasons?

ETA: not saying I think this would happen or that it’s even a possibility. Just a pessimistic hypothetical, because I am a tenured Alabama basketball fan.

It would suck on an epic scale. I’m not predicting any sanctions either but people really need to understand we are among several programs that are whistling past the graveyard right now.

I will accept zero sanctions for Bama, if LSU still has a basketball program.

BUT we are small potatoes compared to L$U, Kansas, Arizona, Louisville. The Dawkins stuff is bad looking but had supposedly been investigated by our compliance department, was cleared by them and signed off on by the NCAA except for the dinner which was paid back and Collin sat out his 1 game. No coaches were involved, only a staff member who arranged the meeting to steer Collin to the financial advisor. No payment was ever proven. It would be pretty shitty of the NCAA to do more than slap us on the wrist when you have multiple big name head coaches tied directly to buying players.

ETA: especially when that entire staff is now gone from Tuscaloosa. At most, vacate some wins and move on.

Based on the public evidence thus far, the situations aren't as far apart as we'd like to believe.

In LSU's situation, Will Wade is personally involved which is really bad and looks even worse but the content of his strong assed offer is currently unknown. Compared to, say Louisville, they're in a lot better shape because he still has some plausible deniability to say "I was talking about how I was assuring the family I would look after their son, not about cash payments." Sure it is a lie, but we have seen that approach work time after time after time when it comes to NCAA issues.

In our situation, they have evidence that talks about actual amounts to the player, his family, and a 6 figure job for a family member. Of those, even if nobody involved with Sexton cooperates with an investigation t the job is easily verifiable through outside means. Prove the job and you give strong support to the other allegations. The positive for us is that no member of the staff is mentioned or implicated in any fashion unless you count the AAD that was working for Dawkins and company.

The truth is Wade is neck deep in the dirtiest corners of the college basketball world and Sexton was almost certainly getting paid by Dawkins the whole time he was here. You've got a really bad situation that may be hard to prove vs a not nearly as bad situation that would likely be pretty easy to prove.

They may go after both, neither, pick the one that is more important, or pick the low hanging fruit. Absolutely nobody knows, which is why we should all be worried.

This isn't true. The cash payments to Sexton and family and job for the brother didn't come out until October 2018, well after the investigation that revealed the dinner and the NCAA ruling. It's possible that Dawkins' text isn't true but it is also possible that the Sextons were not forthcoming. As I said above, if the part about the job for the brother turns out to be true then the money part is true too.

If the NCAA lets LSU and Arizona slide, they might as well shut the NCAA down. It’s pretty obvious their relevance and reason for existence is on the line in the public eye. Everybody knows what’s going on, so they’d better find a way to prove it and punish the guilty parties or STFU and go away because you’ve declared open season if you don’t.

AND Alabama’s situation is looking eerily similar to $Cam Newton. Show me the money or Bama should lawyer up and tell the NCAA they’ve got another court case.

Firing Avery is of no help. Would anybody be surprised if Sexton received money.

I think we did all we could at the time. Hopefully, that is enough.

Unlike lsu, we did not help pay a player.

As far as au goes, I hope they bury them. Pearl is scum and the whole BB world knows it.

Well for one, the NCAA doesn’t have to prove anything. This isn’t the same as the FBI trial. If there are enough indications that a team has been cheating, and clearly there are for LSU, they can drop the hammer as they wish.

Secondly, you must have not seen or forgotten the video that came out where Richardson said Wade told him there was a deal in place for Reid for 300k. That’s a specific amount to align with his “strong” offers.

LSU is screwed and at most we’ll vacate that NCAAT appearance and win. Which is fine with me. I saw it and it happened.

Thought five-star guard Daishen Nix was perhaps the best performer on day one of the NBPA Top 100 camp. Known as the best passer in the country, he was also active on the defensive end, racking up steals. Has great vision in transition and off the dribble.

Man, if Oats can somehow land this guy. Top PG in the country at 6’5” 205.

Makur Maker has done in-home visits with Bama and Kentucky, and also has interest from UCLA, USC, Kansas, Oregon, and others (according to a premium Rivals article this morning). He’s the #2 player in the country.....a 6 foot 11 C

Actually, I did forget about the video. It absolutely elevates their exposure significantly.

So what does Trendon do if LSU fires Wade and grants him his release? Bama and Memphis are full, and he never really had much interest in Indiana
