I'd just prefer our coach to use our university, facilities, current players, administration, etc. as his reason for staying instead of "shite timing, my god must not want me there."

That's just not a good look.

Yes but there is a difference between that and him saying the spaghetti monster kept him from leaving for the Texas job.

If Oats had said that God told him to call a certain play that didn't work, that would be a better comparison.

I know you don't like either but there is a bigger public reaction to one than the other.

You don’t see the double standard and irony in your statement? “Silly religious superstition” happens to be your belief, or rephrased “silly atheist superstition.” Neither can be proven to be more accurate or more superstition than the other. It’s what one chooses to believe.

I don’t want to have this argument here, it’s not the thread for it. But YOU started it. You knew that a great number of people would either at least notice or take offense to your statement. It was unnecessary to the discussion. Nate chose to mention his beliefs. YOU took issue with that and chose to make an inflammatory remark. You can believe what you choose to believe and you can express your opinion. But don’t be passive aggressive and make inflammatory statements and then act like you were just stating your case.
It’s akin to calling a gay person a fig or using the N word to a black person: that may be your belief but you know it’s inflammatory and will spark a reaction. I have a problem with that.
There are few people on this board that I dislike and none of the people involved on this are among them so I’m not attacking you personally. I respect your right to believe as you choose. And as already stated, this isn’t the place so can it. In short, I’m calling you out for, in this case, being an attention whore or picking a fight. It’s petty and should be beneath you.

Hold the frick up. I didn't start shite, and I didn't say "silly religious superstition" or anything of the sort.

You notice I didn’t name any specific poster either. More than one was involved. That was a direct quote of the phrase that started this shite.

Let’s revisit the order of what just happened...

1. Our coach mentioned God in a quote on why he’s staying at Alabama
2. Someone posted that quote here as it relates to the concern of some that he might leave for Michigan.
3. You call religion silly

Believe or don’t believe what you want. There’s no need to provoke a religion debate unnecessarily on a basketball thread. And then act like other posters are trying to start what you already started.

Cmon guru, you’ve posted on here long enough to know that if you just hit reply on the last post how it works. I wasn’t specifically referencing you, you happened to be the last post when I replied. The “You” was an ambiguous collective one, or that was my intention.

I can’t reply to anonymous

I just know what I do. Either reply to the person I'm referencing, or reference the person I'm talking to if I'm coming as hard as you did.

It just looked like you were including me in all of that shite when I did try to be fairly respectful of other's beliefs.

I think the man has a right to reference his beliefs of he wants to.

Guru, that’s normally what I do too. When I’m replying to more than one persons post, I just hit the last reply button. It’s all good if everyone will get back on track.

Here's the deal. Religion is a crutch for the masses. I'll make fun of it whenever the mood strikes me. I'm not in the mood to debate it any more than I'm in the mood to argue with a child about the existence of santa claus. If you catch me on a different day, I might. However, I suspect I'll be the first one to get banned because, despite their claims of constant persecution, christians hold the majority in the country, and definitely on this forum.

But, why are y'all still discussing this? You know that rational people think religion is dumb. Why does seeing it in writing surprise you so much? I think Nate Oats is a smart guy who believes some childish nonsense. That describes the majority of humanity. I still like the guy. I'd probably like most of you in real life.

Let's talk about basketball.

We can always talk about women and sunshine . Hate to see any of you guys argue or get banned over this. I enjoy reading and responding on these boards and 99.9 percent seem like great people .

So, since he has to sit a year, theoretically, we could take him and he wouldn't count against next year's numbers, correct?

Or it could be the mass of insults you’re throwing that get you banned. Always funny to me how most (not all) atheists feel they are of superior intellect when most of their theories of existence revolve around an accidental Big Bang.

Incorrect. He would count against scholarship numbers as he would be on scholarship.

Wouldn’t he still count on the scholly limit even though he is not playing?

Sorry Bryant beat me to it

Hmmm. That seems dumb. I understand why he can't play immediately, but that rule seems to punish the school he's transferring to. It's basically a forced red shirt.

Would I get banned if I were throwing those insults at atheists?

I think I'm probably just a bit above average intellectually. But, I also think I'm much more rational about this topic than the average religious person because my beliefs aren't dearly held and passed down through generations. They're not my sense of comfort.

quote:

most of their theories of existence revolve around an accidental Big Bang.

The big bang has nothing to do with Atheism. The big bang is science. Atheism is the lack of a belief in a god.

If you'd rather discuss how unlikely you think the Big Bang is and compare it to the likelihood of the existence of a god, you could do that. While probably most Atheists do believe the Big Bang happened, so do a lot of christians.

But, here's what I suggest. I won't cry about you guys saying religious stuff, if you don't cry when I make fun of it? I felt like that was the deal when I made fun of Nate's belief that a magic being sent him to Bama rather than Michigan. But, clearly, some aren't accustomed to having their beliefs ridiculed. I don't think this is the place for religious debate, but I'm fine with you guys saying or sharing stuff about your god. I won't report you. Just don't get angry when I say it's silly. We'll all laugh and carry on. Deal?
