I think Petty is the key. If he comes back, I think we have a very good season. If he leaves, that’s a lot of new faces in key positions that will have to have time to mesh.

Food for thought: if the NCAA hammers Kansas, or any other program for that matter, during the off season, those players will be allowed to transfer and not sit out, correct? There could be some gold mines out there if the right program gets bent over.

There are only two rounds in the NBA draft. He probably wouldn't get drafted but anyone who can shoot 45% from three definitely would get signed to the G league and have a shot.
His stock now may be at the highest it will get. He shot 44% from three for most of the season, which was 9th best in the country, he showed he can rebound and is improving on defense. Say he comes back next year and shoots 34% from three like he did last year, his stock would drop, even if he does improve on his defense and ball handling.
I hope he comes back but I don't think it's close to a sure thing I'd say it's probably 50/50.

Another thing that makes me kind of lean towards he might leave is that Donta Hall who he is good friends with recently had a good experience playing in the G league and made it to the NBA pretty fast.
Levi Randolph who played here and is one of Petty's good friends has also pays in the G league and makes close to 40,000 a year playing basketball.
We have had a recent track record of players going to the G league and either playing there for a long time making good money like Randolph, or quickly getting called up to the NBA like Donta.

They finally get legitimate coaching and eventually they capitalize on their talent.
Sad but true. Alonzo Gee was another one who did that.

I hope Petty comes back and don’t think he is for sure gone or anything but the G league is a developmental league where he could still work on his game while making close to 40,000. That’s probably gonna at least be pretty appealing.
The chance is also there he could come back and be the probable focal point of our offense and possibly become a first round pick, and even if he doesn't he could always go to the G league next year. The probability of a senior getting drafted in the first round is pretty slim however.
Will he interesting to see what he does, it could go either way.

Yea - I think Petty showed he is at a point where he is a legitimate G-League guy this year. It will just be up to him on what he wants to do.
If he decided to come back to try and get this thing going on the right track he'd have a chance to be pretty revered by the fanbase. I definitely wouldn't blame him if he left, though. Would be a completely reasonable decision.

$40k is incentive to leave?? Not arguing, just surprised - that seems paltry but I'm not up-to-date on G league pay scale.

I expect Petty to declare without an Agent and go through the draft process before ultimately deciding to come back

Petty was actually asked on Friday about if he would possibly declare for the draft or not after the season, here is what he said about it.

Juwan Gary has been described as a tough player too by a lot of people, and a good defender. Between Rojas, Gary, and Herb, hopefully next year we will be a lot tougher team. Herb is the only one on the team this season I'd consider physically tough on the court.
He is not a slouch on offense either, he averaged 24 points per game as a Sr. He was actually our highest rated commitment in last years class.

“Juwan’s that combo forward/guard that’s so valuable in today’s game,” Rivals national basketball analyst Corey Evans said over the summer. “He’s super tough-nosed. He's about going and rebounding the ball, defending different spots, good energy giver. He’s that type of guy.”

I’m not sunshine pumping, I’m not that kind of person.
But, if Gary, Rojas don’t get hurt, JQ isn’t ruled ineligible, Herb doesn’t get hurt, and Petty doesn’t get hurt, I believe this was a Sweet 16 caliber team. And once u get there, it’s anybody’s title

I hope he's ready to contribute.
Have to say that I'm extremely concerned about the prospect of possibly going into next season with only 2 players on the roster who have played well for a full season of top level college basketball.
I recall reading when he signed from people on this board that Juwan was a tough, athletic physical player who's weakness was outside shooting?
Strange looking back on the 2019 recruiting rankings that Forbes, Shackleford and Gary all had practically identical ranking spots.

I tend to agree. Certainly the talent to make the Sweet 16.
I am concerned that this was our season though if Kira and Petty leave.
