We are gonna be thin if we don’t get Quinerly. We are only gonna have 7 guys to man the 1-4 spots

We will be thin, but he’s missing Fleming in that rotation and he should be able to cover the 4 some as well. If I had to put money on a surprise contributor this year it would be Fleming (only because Shackelford should no longer be considered a surprise).

Nate Oats on Herb Jones: “He’s as good a defensive player as there is in the country, I think. Depending on (Jahvon) Quinerly, he can play some point for us. What he has to work on, and this is no secret, is his shooting. He can have a long NBA career if he shoots consistently”

I will take Herb just making layups consistently. He missed so damn many layups last year

Nate Oats on Galin Smith’s role this season: "Galin is one of our hardest working guys. He brings what it takes to win games. He plays defense and rebounds. He’s gonna be a big part of what we do. He’ll probably start at the five for us if things keep going the way they are."

Guess both Galin and Herb are starting. Not a fan of it honestly but I will trust Oats and believe Both guys have worked their tails off to improve over the offseason

Man, I love our coach. He said he was bringing Jax back on for the scrimmage to see if our guys have a little pride.

Alabama coach Nate Oats on Jahvon Quinerly’s status: "We’re working. Our compliance office is one of the best in the country. They’re on top of it. They got an update two days ago, and we’re still waiting. They think we can get him cleared, but we won’t know until we find out."

Nate Oats on “secret scrimmage” for UA. “We are bringing in the same team that drilled Alabama last year. We want to see if our guys have a little pride.” (Tweeter’s note: it’s Jacksonville State but don’t tell anyone — its a secret.)

Yea, this was a Cecil tweet.

I like it.

I also love that Oats continues to harp on max effort. Missing shots, bad luck, poor officiating...it all happens. But at least give a damn for 40 minutes every game. That’s something that didn’t happen after Johnson’s first year I don’t believe. It sure as hell didn’t happen last year.

Another note from Oats Press conference is that Beetle isnt 100% clear and won’t play against JSU Sunday. Will probably be limited against GT and hopefully 100% ready for Penn.

JQ tweeted this exact tweet:

“Support is FREE”

Then deleted it hours later after everyone was talking about how he capitalized free...wonder if he’s hinting at being “free” aka a waiver

Everything I've seen him talk about seems to be aimed at people who didn't support his decision to transfer. I'd assume he's still wasting his time fighting that battle.

Still no word on Jahvon Quinerly waiver request per @nate_oats who says “we’re not frustrated but we’ve got a scrimmage and exhibition coming up so it would be nice to have an answer.”

ATTENTION BIGBIRD

quote:

Jaden Shackelford should play a big role for Alabama. Nate Oats: “This is my 7th year in Division I basketball, and he’s as ready to play Division I basketball as any freshman I think I’ve ever coached. I anticipate him being a major factor. I love coaching the kid every day.”

Remember Shackleford had said he anticipates him being a one and done. Hope not for our sake.
But I always thought he was going to be very good. You don't keep scoring 40 points a game and be mediocre.

I gotta admit that TipOff at Toomers stuff looks pretty cool. I hope we do something like that next year at like the Quad or something

Hey, I don’t normally post on here, but I do read y’alls posts to stay up to date. I just had a quick question. Will the games this year before SEC play that are on SEC Network + be available to watch even if I don’t pay for ESPN +? I know in the past I could watch them, but the ESPN + this year seemed different.
