How can anyone have watched Herb the last 2 seasons and believe he would have had any positive impact on this game?

Um, did you watch us try to defend in the half court? Have you watched Herb defend?

You can think Herb is the worst offensive player on the planet and an overrated defender but sweet jesus Ray Charles could see he'd be 7x better than what we were doing without him.

They need to put the hard camera back on the other side. The side the camera was showing was half empty and the side behind the camera looked pretty full to me

Was Reese's defensive struggles due to his injury?

I don't know of an injury that results in a matador's cape being surgically grafted onto your arse, so while the injury may have played a role, it wasn't alone.

Reese is both physically challenged defensively and seems to struggle to understand/implement help and rotation.

It's a really really really bad combo.

I thought Petty played hard. Just not that well.

We just have some guys that struggle to stay in front of anyone. Like Kira. On the other hand, he was fantastic offensively in the second half. Shackleford’s defense was a problem too, but he should shoot a lot better going forward. He better cause he may not turn down a shot the entire time he’s here.

We cannot lose Herb. He can’t make us a good defensive team, but he can cover up a few things here and there. Hell, he might have been our best guy against their big guy down the stretch.

One thing I dont understand is when coaches think you can only pressure and be tough on defense by playing man.
When I coached, most of our pressure defense was zone. I see a real lack of defensive versatility in current coaching. With the current shot clock situation, you can really make it difficult on teams with a well executed zone pressure.
Our man defense was absolutely awful.

Also I don’t even blame Kira that much. He carried us and he made a clutch shot right before he missed the free throws.

I wish he would stay a bit more even keeled though. He gets so down on himself - it looked like somebody was going to have to almost carry him off the court. It’s not a bad thing to care a lot, and he is super young. Still, it felt like there was a spiral of that towards the end of last year, and it wasn’t a great sign to have it start right away this year.

I like that they've got him trying to do more than just shoot. But, I think he may have forced it a bit this game. A happy medium would be good.

That's what I was thinking when that dude was maneuvering around our slow footed bigs. Dude was really more like an old school small forward anyway. I think Herb would have been the best defender to put on him.

I’ve never seen somebody fumble as many loose balls as Petty does.

Would be huge to get him before Rhode Island next Friday

I would agree if it wasn't for the fact that any time Daniel Giddens was fed the ball inside, it would shoot out like a turtle on mario kart.

Those back to back times late in the game when he couldn’t hold onto the ball were brutal.

Anyway, on the positive side of things:

Herb made 4 straight free throws! I was sort of impressed with Forbes’ role playing potential. Kira was just a monster at times in the second half. Shackleford only missed like 37 shots.

I'm gonna be honest, I think the Quinnerly stuff is pretty overhyped.

Long term it's great to have a talented kid like that, but he's done nothing collegiately at this point. I'm sure it'd be a net positive but he's going to be just as up and down as everyone else.
