The intense energy coming from Grant is palpable even just from a picture.

I still hate it didn't work out. Loved the guy, how he worked, his demeanor, his character, all that stuff.

Just didn't happen.

Folks don't like to believe it, but sometimes the coach and the place just don't fit.

I also loved those same things about Grant and they will serve him VERY well in a lot of places but the one thing he lacks is a lot of visible external passion - which is exactly what a program like Bama needs. Without it, the spiral of a bad year leads to fan support slipping, which leads to recruiting slipping, and down the drain we go.

IMO, if Grant had 1/3rd the external energy of Avery or Pearl he'd still be here with a lot of tourney trips under his belt and we'd be pretty happy.

That's a lot of buyout $ in that picture.

But worth it if Oats keeps doing what he's doing.

I think Grant is an example of the Peter principle applying to the coaching profession. His personality and unwillingness to get his hands dirty in recruiting just make him a mid-major kind of guy. Running a successful program at a place like VCU or Dayton is his max level of competence as a head coach. Dayton is his alma mater and if he's smart he will stay as long as they want him to stay.

I think y'all are underselling his recruiting a little bit.
