The numbers all very ominous. I fully expect them to make some 3's and they have to win an SEC game at some point.

Counterpoint: They are bad.

If we go 0 for 25, I think our guys would live in the gym until the next game. We don’t anticipate on a 0-for-25 performance for sure. We may see their best shooting performance.”

After averaging 7.8 points and 3.8 rebounds per game in December, Alabama forward Javian Davis has had a month to forget in January. Since the start of SEC play, the redshirt freshman is averaging just 2.2 points and 3.0 rebounds over five games.

Annnnd he’s still an upgrade over Smith in every aspect of the game. I love what Oats has done, but at a certain point you have to forget what they do in practice and realize they’ve been total crap in actual games.

Offensive Ratings per Ken Pom

1. Alex Reese (116.3)
2. John Petty (115.9)
3. Javian Davis (108.8) (mainly due to small sample size)
4. Jaden Shackelford (108.7)
5. James Bolden (104.6)
6. Kira Lewis (100.4)
7. Herbert Jones (99.1)
8. Galin Smith (87.0)
9. Jaylen Forbes (85.7)

Can you run that for just the last 10 games for comparison? Not sure if that’s an option or not.

I can do a rough average, which isn't exact but probably gives a decent picture

1. Alex Reese (123.3)
2. John Petty (117.6)
3. Jaden Shackelford (106.4)
4. Herb Jones (106.3)
5. Kira Lewis (99.6)
6. Javian Davis (99.1)
7. Beetle Bolden (98.5)

Reese doesn’t get enough credit, he has been on fire lately and is probably only about 75% healthy.

He's been shooting great, obviously, but he's also become confident and comfortable with what he can do off the dribble. He doesn't force things, but if there is an opening he takes it HARD to the rack. And he's got pretty decent feet to stop and take little short runners and flip shots.

He's just another example of what an incredible job this coaching staff has done in developing guys and getting them comfortable in doing things in a very short period of time.

Good stuff.

Kira, Petty, and Shack have all stayed pretty consistent.

Herb and Reese are trending up.

Beetle has fallen off a little, but he seems like the type to be up and down depending which sample you analyze.

Yea - he also has had some games where his impact is minimal either due to usage, injury or foul trouble. So, some of those he had a terrible rating but it was really just 8 minutes or so, so averaging it out makes it look a lot worse.

Yep - Reese obviously, and Herb has been much better at doing things within himself and contributing offensively with passing, rebounding and getting to the line.

Most of our guys are gonna financially do much better due to the hiring of Oates.
There was no progress in any facet of their game under the little general.

It absolutely has. He and Bolden are completely incapable of playing defense without fouling. It's usually stupid handsy shite too.

It's been cool to watch Reese develop this offensive game that is simple and effective.

He receives the ball at the top of the key. If his man isn't close enough he can hit the 3 over him. If his man closes out recklessly he can pump and go by him. It doesn't have to be an overly complicated sport if you have:

1) a coach that will put guys in positions to succeed
2) players that can dribble and shoot and pass (or at least 2 out of 3)

Yeah, Reese has really grown a lot over the season. He still isn't great defensively but he doesn't have to be as long as he's scoring points and being generally useful on the offensive end.

Just saw Dajuan Wagner Jr’s name in a recruiting article.

Seems weird that Dajuan Wagner is already old enough to have a kid being recruited.
