To be fair, the “I’m old enough to understand bama basketball misery” argument is sort of dumb. It’s the younger bama basketball fans that haven’t really seen anything good.
I would be even more pessimistic if all I really knew was late Gottfied, Avery, Grant, etc.
Yep - my real Alabama basketball memories start with David Hobbs. Basically every season has ended in dissapointment in one way or another outside of the Elite 8 run. The good teams all underachieved. The Gottfried teams were basically the 2000s Braves. You knew exactly what would happen when March rolled around.

About the same for me. I remember a few Wimp teams, but that’s about it. The last 2-3 years.
On the other hand, if you were born in like the mid-late 90s or later then it’s just a bunch of garbage basically. The bright spots are a few first round losses in the tournament.

Braves and Bama Basketball have always let me down. The worst was the year we had Ernest Shelton and were lights out shooting 3’s won like 25 games and then got our arse kicked by Fat Bruce and Milwaukee in a 5/12 matchup..... one that everyone was saying an upset could happen and we still let it happen.

The Hobbs years werent all bad. Some great memories as a kid though. I loved Brian Williams and Eric Washington. McDyess was a beast. Roy Rogers. I think the Roy Rogers team lost to Tenn in the first round of the SEC tourney and missed a NCAA berth.

Maybe my favorite Bama player ever.

I loved Shelton. The amount of push off offensive fouls he got away with was uncanny.

Everyone keeps waiting for Howland to turn that corner but I don't see it ever happening. Think he will always have them solid but never great.

Agree - it kind of is what it is. They may get the right mix of guys to make a run one year, but for the most part it's going to be this.
