That presents huge problems. You can’t go right at Blackshear because he’s going to get more calls his way than ours. We don’t have the bodies to neutralize him so maybe we should just use a strategy that has been used in the past. Concentrate on shutting down the other 4 players. Shut down defense on the other 4. Try to control Blackshear and limit his touches but don’t get drawn into a battle against him. Let him have 30 points, just hold everyone else to single digits and outscore them. Make it Bama vs Blackshear on the scoreboard. I think it will work. I am curious to see how Nate approaches it.

We Have to keep him off of the offensive glass. That’s probably the most important key to today’s game IMO.....that and not turning it over

I’ve heard and read a few different places about how games are called generally in favor of the home team. Is that more of an SEC thing or just CBB in general?

In a vacuum...it is a CBB thing, but it does seem to be worse in the SEC than some other leagues.

Can talk about defense all we want with Blackshear, but I’m sure we’ll will try to speed them up and count on the other four players not being disciplined enough to get him involved regularly.

One thing we can control is trying to keep him off the boards.

Also this isn’t news, but LSU and Tennessee are both distinctly not terrifying

Alabama at Florida: Both teams need to start winning games against top competition to strengthen their tournament resumes. This should tell us a lot about where these teams are and if their tournament aspirations are realistic

Alabama has a fairly solid squad that likely falls within the top quartile of all teams in college basketball this year. They are ranked #50 (out of 353) in the most recent Haslametrics ratings and have a record of 7-5.

Utilizing one of the game's most blistering paces (the sixth-fastest in D1), Alabama succeeds primarily through their offense. They are ranked 32nd in offensive efficiency and score in excess of 108 points every 100 possessions vs. AO. Alabama lives and dies by the three-ball and will launch from long-distance early and often. The team ranks 22nd in ratio of three-point attempts to total field goal attempts. If you do allow them to shoot from long, they have the ability to punish you for it, too. Ranked in the top-50 in three-point shooting percentage, they make approximately 38.0% of their three-point attempts vs. AO. Alabama has also been fairly successful when shooting from the field. The squad is ranked 60th in the country in field goal percentage, making approximately 46.0% of their attempts vs. AO. If Alabama does have a glaring weakness offensively, it would have to be the team's difficulties obtaining and converting second-chance opportunities from offensive rebounds. The squad has a second-chance conversion percentage of just 2.6% vs. AO, which ranks 25th-worst in the nation.

Alabama is also a fairly decent team on the defensive end of the court. The team ranks 106th nationally in defensive efficiency, allowing about 94 points every 100 trips upcourt vs. AO. Alabama owns a pretty good track record against teams that shoot the three. They rank 51st in the NCAA in defensive three-point percentage, allowing AO to make just 29.5% of their attempts from afar. Alabama has also been pretty good preventing teams from hitting shots in the paint. They are ranked 63rd in the country in defensive near-proximity percentage, allowing AO to make good on only 53.7% of their attempts from close-up.

Tennessee isn’t good at all. LSU isn’t what they were last year, but they will still be pretty good.

Was at the Richmond game, and I have to say this team has come a long ways from the first game of the season. I think we beat Florida by 6+. This is a tourney team if we stay healthy.

Keyontae Johnson is also a very good rebounder despite being a bit undersized.

Bama can't win this game in the halfcourt. Gotta get into Nembhard's face and turn UF over. If Bama's defense can rattle UF's guards and get out in transition, Bama will win.

I don't think this will be a close game but don't know who will win. I think it'll be a 15-point game either way depending on who can impose their desired tempo.

I absolutely think we are going to poop ourselves and lose by 17.

Really no basketball reason for it, just Alabama basketball instincts built up over time.

I just like this team and think they’re going to play well. I am old enough to remember late Wimp teams/David Hobbs teams, so I get the whole Bama basketball pessimism thing though.

Just kidding I'm really not pessimistic I'm excited to watch tonight. Just hard to envision winning in my head due to absolutely nothing reasonable or logical.

To be fair, the “I’m old enough to understand bama basketball misery” argument is sort of dumb. It’s the younger bama basketball fans that haven’t really seen anything good.

I would be even more pessimistic if all I really knew was late Gottfied, Avery, Grant, etc.
