Are we sure Slade will be back? Wonder if he would want to move on or come back for a 5th year.

Slade actually has two more years if he wants them. I think he'll be back, but you never know.

Slade is our starter in the slot. No reason for him not to return. He isn’t a game changer, but he’s a solid player that we need in that room as a leader if nothing else.

Cubelic (who I like) referred to Wynn as one of the "young guys" on the line Alabama would like to see step up with Mathis' departure.

I thought to myself, "guy has to be 22 or 23 by now, right?"

I mean, he's the starter in the slot. Not sure why he'd leave.

I think (hope) that we'll see more rotation out there next year with Leary/Earle, but I dunno why Slade would leave.

Actually we need a more dynamic player as the starter there.

I think the biggest hope we should all have is that we play more receivers next year - including Slade. With the young talented guys more experienced at necessary things like reading coverages and breaking routes, there is no reason we shouldn't play 2-3 guys in the slot are 3-4 guys outside depending on personnel groupings, defense, down and distance, play call, etc.

I'd be pretty disappointed if we didn't see the following guys getting at least 10-15 snaps every game

- Brooks
- Hall
- Holden
- Bolden
- Earle
- Leary

Wynn and Ingraham both need to move on. Ingraham in particular has never played a significant amount and has been injured the majority of his time here. Wynn will probably get passed on the depth chart by one of the younger defensive tackles.

Amen. Let ‘em play . Saves risk of meaningless injuries/ wear and tear/ fatigue of starters , not to mention valuable experience

Saban needs to use game time when the game is in hand to run the offense and defense with back ups for situations like we had this year. I remember in 2017 he ran the offense with Tua and the 2017 receivers when the game was out of reach. Tennessee and Vanderbilt come to mind. That playing time paid off in the national championship game.

I think we saw Earle getting some good reps in slot this year in some blowouts but his reps seemed to dry up as we continued playing games in which we couldn't pull away from inferior teams. I just don't know that the trust was there for him to read the defense and go where he needed to go. Hopefully with a full offseason he will make some strides there. I do think the coaches want to see him out there.

And I get why they didn't this year - I think we saw some of it when they did play later in the year. The route running, coverage reading, etc was clearly not there yet. I wish we'd been able to get them a little more up to speed and everything, but I get it.

That shouldn't be an issue next year. They should all be mentally good enough to play.

From watching smart people grade film and others on this board break things down, it seems pretty clear that this freshman crop of WRs was just not ready to do the route reading/running stuff that is required to play in our offense. Now, does that imply that our offense is too complicated or we should have adjusted? Perhaps, but we didn't, so that is kind of a moot point.

With a full season of practice/games, a spring, an offseason of film and pass skeleton with Bryce.........those issues shouldn't exist next year.

Slade interview this morning on his decision

If you want to know what he’s thinking

I can't expect those kids to have that level of in-game awareness to adapt when most are just getting their first real competition snaps.

I blame BOB, who shortened our rotation so badly not giving these kids real experience (spare me the late game snaps where they aren't even running routes and just their to block and run clock).

As you know I have complained profusely about BOB all year and I can't state how horrendous a hire he has truly been. I know the Lord doesn't want me to hate my fellow man but I feel that way about him and Marrone... and Billingsley

That.....sounds like a guy seriously considering leaving. The comments about targets (and that they were basically the first thing he mentions) tells me that his season review meeting clearly noted that other slot guys on the roster might play some more next year.

I got the same thing. If he is smart it won't be to the draft.

He really needs to develop his speed and quickness. Find a 30-35 yard hill and sprint them 3 to 4 days a week to increase that acceleration, power and knee drive.

I mean, it wasn't that horrendous. He does some stuff that annoys me but he also did some good things. The OL though was atrocious for good chunks of the year and I blame that on coaching.

I agree with you - I think that was a failure this year. Now, I do think that the whole "knowing how to read stuff and where to go" is something that is learned in practice as much as games, so they probably didn't give them confidence that they were ready for it. However, if all your freshmen receivers aren't able to grasp your concepts and reads, then maybe you need to adjust and find ways to get them involved with reads/plays that they can do.

I don't think he was horrendous, but he was definitely more of a shoulder shrug to me than anything else.
