Jesus I knew it was bad, but not that bad.

You would think that means we'll be playing 2 Big 12 teams next year since I would think we'll be in the SEC-BIG 12 challenge.

Two more losses.
Just like Clemson, Wichita State, and Notre Dame last season?

Not like this hurts us in anyway even if we lose both. Texas is trending towards being a very good team under Smart, so likely it could really help the resume if we win and not really hurt it if we lose. It provides more visibility in a talent rich state.

So next year the schedule includes home games against Clemson and Dayton and away games against Oregon and Texas. That's a very tough non-conference schedule right there.

Yeah, I don't think anyone is sure. One thing however that is certain, is the pedigree.
It's not like it's huge shoes to fill.

It's like people forget where Retin was before this last season. Just because Coleman wasn't very good his first 2 seasons doesn't mean he was doomed to play like that the next 2 seasons. Coleman had shown flashes of what he could become for this team, but struggled with confidence.
Even as bad as he played at times this year, he was a key player for us, and was crucial for us to have holding leads in close games.

Yea I hate to see both of them leave especially if we don't have someone lined up. At least kessens was another big body. Coleman showed flashes as well. Liked the roster for next year with them here

We will find someone to take Kessens spot. I don't think that I could have handled another year of him

He was also the only player we had that could consistently hit from the FT line.

If somehow we could get Canyon Barry, he's good at underhand free throws so that would take care of that

Are we "in" on anybody this late ??

quote:Seriously, Jimmie Taylor should/could be taught to shoot FTs gramdma style (underhanded) easily during the off season. I guarantee his % would improve by 25%. You just simply lay the ball over the front of the rim.

Yea - I'm not happy to see him go, but I don't think he is quite the Retin comparison. Retin was always a little ball of insane athletic ability who was learning to play the game. I think Justin could have improved in certain aspects, but I don't think he ever would have improved his finishing at the basket enough to be much more than a league average PG.

Corey Evans says on twitter that Memphis grad transfer guard Avery Woodson has become a priority for Bama. I know nothing about him.

I don't really know anything about him other than his statistics.
He's started in 45 games for Memphis, averaging close to 10 PPG and 3 RPG. He was a 43% shooter from beyond the arc last year, having close to 180 attempts from the 3-point land. Also solid in the paint, averaging 40%.
FT% is at 70%. I think Retin was around the same. Another thing to see is that he averaged nearly 4 fouls per game.
So, I'd say it's a huge plus to get him.

From what I've read from Memphis fans, he's a great shooter who is not a fan of playing any defense at all. You can live with a guy who has defensive deficiencies if he can shoot that well. With as many open looks as we got Arthur this year, you'd think this guy could excel here.

Same thing was said about Retin before this year. While Retin showed flashes of being a great scorer by getting to the line and occasionally finishing his 1st 3 years, Coleman showed flashes of being an excellent distributer and shooter. Definitely 2 different play styles, but both have gone through the same thing: inconsistency due to a lack of confidence. I called Retin breaking out this year because of the flashes that he had shown, and I could've easily seen Coleman breaking out next season.
