I did not watch every play but at one point in the second half the announcers said no one was doing anything offensively except the player dribbling the ball.
They also said Key was not having a good game.

Is it just me or does Jr. shoot too much. I think in the UK game I saw he was 3 of 15.

Sexton reminds me of James "Hollywood" Robinson from the Wimp Sanderson days at BAMA. Never saw a shot he didn't like!!!

Kind of glad this disappointing season is over. The only positives I can think of is that we finished better than we were predicted in the SEC and we won 2 games in the SECT.

Nah. Waiting on Mass Effect: Andromeda to come out. Just downloaded Borderlands 2, so I've been playing that. Also, the upcoming Shadow of War looks fricking amazing.

They were better ball players than ours. Their PG was a treat to watch, as was the big post player.

They also shot something like 67% in 2nd half and 57% for the game. Any team that does that against Alabama is probably going to win, as I don't think we could shoot those percentages against air.

I disagree. I don't think it was disappointing, just hard to watch because of the lack of offense. We all expected nit at best, though losing in the first game is disappointing. But our defense was very good, and we made a good sec tournament run. I'm perfectly fine with what we've done so far.

I'm so glad we've got that foreign tour before next season. Our guys that are coming back are getting a little better but still need a ton of work, and the guys that will be new have to learn to play with the older guys. That should help things run a little smoother and have them ready for game 1 next year.

This is worth a read. It's what Avery said after the game last night. ? LINK

Couple of quotes that stand out to me:

quote:

“We’ve tried to recruit in a way that the players that are returning next year, they’re going to have some experience, but the guys that are coming in are ready to go. Maybe not all five, but hopefully two, hopefully three.

quote:

I never made any bold promises about the NCAA Tournament or 20-win seasons in the first two years. Our whole program has been pointing to Year 3.

CAJ did a good job with what he had this year, but I'm afraid we've got more problems than we realize. Key is going to have to improve immensely by next year and I'm not sure he can. He's a turnover machine because he's slow and lazy with the ball...terrible handle that will be exploited by good teams...basically, he has poor agility. Ingram also needs a ton of work, especially with his ball handling..makes some terrible decisions with the ball. He's actually a hybrid of sorts with no true position. Avery's going to have to find a niche for him. We're gonna lose some rebounding ability (our only true strength) with Taylor and the Nigerian gone, so there's work there...and I'm not even going into the subject of shooting the ball.
I know we've got a helluva class of newbies coming in but after all, they're ....newbies. I hate to sound negative, but I want to be realistic about what to expect. One thing's for sure, CAJ will put an entertaining team on the floor and good or bad, it'll be more fun to watch than what we had.

Bola was considered a great rebounder bc he got a TON of chances at offensive rebounds bc we couldn't shoot. Jimmie got better but Hall/Giddens should be able to do just as good or better. Corban didn't provide a whole lot except a couple 20 point games and Hale was useless. That's the 4 players we lose. We return everyone else from a 19 win team that went to the SEC tourney semis. We add 6 new guys and 2 or 3 of them should be ready to play day 1 like Avery said last night. Yes, we'll have some issues just bc we have new guys who will have to learn, and the other guys will have to get better, but if we can just make a few more shots, avoid droughts and turnovers, I don't see how we get worse.

Yea, I agree. Hard to see this team not being at LEAST 2-3 wins better considering what we lose and what we theoretically bring in, especially with the way the incoming guys fill gigantic needs in terms of positions and skillsets.

Even if Petty is just a decent roll player and Sexton is an erratic point guard who scores 18 one game and 4 the next, that's an improvement on the current roster.

I just want to make the NCAA tournament next year. That's all I ask for. I do think with the talent we'll have we should be able to win a game in it, but at this point I'll just be happy to make it

Y'all go check out Avery's twitter this morning. He's quoting a ton of accomplishments that we've had from the past 2 years like Key making the All Freshman Team, beating SC to advance to the semis this year, and beating Florida last year for the first time in 20 years. He keeps quoting a lot of it with "1 2 3" as in Year 3 is the year. I like how he promotes the program and brings positivity, even after a loss.

I agree with all of this. We're losing very little off of what was a young team, and adding some much-needed pieces. I'm not saying it will be a final four team, but I do think it will be the best team we've had in quite a while.

The realistic, reasonable expectation next season is to make the NCAA Tournament. I think everyone would agree with that. Anything less will be a disappointment.

Also, I'm starting to get the crazy idea that Schaffer might be the best true PG we have on the team right now. When he comes in, he seems to always make at least one great pass in his 30 seconds of playing time. I just think the guy knows how to play. I'm not saying he should be a starter or anything, but I think he knows what to do with the ball.

I kind of agree. I'm like you, I watch him and immediately think "this kid knows where to go and what to do". My immediate reaction to that thought is "well, he's too small and slow and that would show itself over more minutes don't be an idiot". However, it wouldn't shock me if over an offseason and pre-season practice that he gave them reason to give him a chance to play real minutes early.

He clearly has great instincts and basketball sense. He feels and sees things that nobody else on our current roster does with the ball. Kids like that end up being solid player in big programs a lot, so it isn't like it would be an incredibly far out thing to happen.

I don't think Avery trusted that he was physically able to play at this level until later in the year. I'm also not sure how good he is/would be as a defender over meaningful minutes.

But he certainly showed good things in his small PT.
