Kevin Steele and Mel Tucker seem to be in strong consideration. Tee Martin hasn't been contacted.
I am thinking Mel Tucker gets it. Steele is in for a second interview, though. If Tucker gets it Ga will have to deal with the distractions.

If they hire Kevin Steele Knoxville might cease to exist.

Yeah, at this point you almost have to pity those poor bastards. They are gonna be passed. They will come to terms with it and rally the troops but good lord fellas, this year really couldn't have been much worse for those vol fans.

I mean, Kevin Steele? As head coach? Really?

I know Baylor was an awful job, but they literally went 1-31 in the Big XII. 1-31. Their only win was against 2-10 Kansas because Kansas missed like 3 extra points.

His 9 wins overall were

- 1999 North Texas (2-9)
- 2000 North Texas (3-8)
- 2000 South Florida (1AA at the time)
- 2001 Arkansas State (2-9)
- 2001 New Mexico (6-5)
- 2001 Southern Illinois (1AA)
- 2002 Samford (1AA)
- 2002 Tulsa (1-11)
- 2002 Kansas (2-10)

I honestly can't think of a less exciting and more depressing hire for Tennessee at this moment. I don't care if he brings in Sean Payton to coach the offense.

Not if you're old enough to remember the late 1990s. Frick 'em.

Probably Fat Phil just likes Steele. Maybe Steele will let fat Phil hire the assistants. Someone he can control. Or maybe he just has him up there to try to hire as an assistant.

Tosh is going to see what happens with Pruitt. Pruitt is being looked at by several schools. If DC so opens for Alabama, tosh would be a good candidate, and saban likes to promote from within where possible

Please tell me there isn't any racism involved here. I hate to go there, but considering all of UTs' phone calls made and Tee not be one of them is puzzling.

I don't think that's it. From what I've read on other sites, he is a great recruiter, but average on-field or position coach. Anyone that got an 11 on the NFL wonderlic test, can't be the smartest guy in the room. Those are fairly simple test.

To be fair to Tennessee ( ) Martin has no HC experience. I'm sure that, more than race, is impacting his consideration for the HC job.

Man, you should have heard one of my Vol friends talking before the season started. This was going to be THEIR YEAR.
