Guy on BOL does a write up everyweek during the season, thought this was interesting:

I’m gonna say yes. I mean who is this guy? Yeah, he carved up Syracuse and Wake and UNC. He was 9-22 against Michigan. 7-18 against Louisville. 17-35 against Clemson. So against the better defenses, he’s not even a 50% passer. And with the strength our defense being our 2ndary … I like this matchup.

I don't know the exact numbers-and the exact number is not the point-but the same critique applies to Jalen.

Once LSU provided the blue print, he struggled against the remaining tough defenses that we faced.

Hurts lit up Miss St and Bama moved the ball very well on Auburn. If it wasn't for all the turnovers in the Iron Bowl, Bama would have put almost 50 on Auburn.

Lit up Florida pretty good too.

When it came to the playoffs, I think Saban kinda handcuffed the offense. He figured if the offense didn't turn the ball over, the defense was good enough to win the games for him.

Worked for Washington, almost did for Clemson.

Hopefully, Hurts has gained Saban's trust and the offense is full go.

I agree re: Francois. He was a redshirt freshman too, not a true freshman. And, he isn't much of a threat with his legs. On the flip side, he wasn't given a lot of easy passes and his OL was a sieve.

I expect he will be better, but I don't think he's in the league of QBs that can take over a game against us (Newton, Manziel, Watson).

He, however, continued to run well and had a good O-line and running game. Francois does not run and will have at best an average O-line in front of him.

I think FSU will find a few plays to get their athletes loose, but they are going to struggle to consistently move the ball against us. If they didn't have spears on their helmets I think everyone would be looking at this is a big time mismatch for our D vs their O, even with our turnover.

Scheme, weaknesses, etc do not match up at all for them against us.

Honestly, I think this looks a lot like us vs Washington last year in terms of opponents O vs our D.

Just how good is their defense? 2011 LSU good?

I don't see it from last year, but maybe I am missing something.

They have tons of talent. High end talent. I don't think Charles Kelly is very good but James, McFadden, Nnadi, Sweat, etc are all studs.

All true.

I'm just being realistic here, though.

Jimbo has a better track record with QB development than just about anyone.

Agreed. I expect Francois will take a big step.

Yeah, I said the GOOD defense we played, not all those remaining.

We were pretty stagnant against the gators until the NOTs opened things up.

Nope. Miss State made every quarterback look like Petyon Manning. Hurts as a passer was horrible against the good defenses and was good for at least one turnover per game too.

Bama still put up 54 points on Florida, though 13 were from the NOT.

Exactly.

Just looked it up: 11/20 for 138 yds, over a third of which (52yds) came from a bubble screen to Ridley

Hurts passed about as good as expected for a true freshman against top 10 defenses. The difference between Hurts and other TF, historically speaking, is Hurts made big, game changing plays in HUGE moments last year. In the toughest moments, he was cold steel, which is one of the main reasons he won SECOPOTY.

I'm not arguing against any of that, Funky.

And don't get me wrong, I'm team Hurts all the way. Dudes a baller.

Excited to see the progress he's made in the off season.

He made just as many Reuben Foster plays last year as Reuben Foster.

Evans is a monster and when in good position, he's every bit as nasty as Reuben.
