Alabama Softball Defeats Evansville, Eighth-Ranked Virginia Tech in Home Opener
The Crimson Tide run-rules the Purple Aces, shut out the Hokies
Alabama softball made its 2022 debut at Rhoads Stadium Friday afternoon, earning a 10-2 run rule victory over Evansville before battling to a 1-0 pitchers duel against No. 8 Virginia Tech.
A trio of Alabama (6-0) players posted multi-hit games in the win vs. Evansville (5-2), including a home run from Ally Shipman as part of a 2-for-3 performance. Against Virginia Tech (5-1), the Crimson Tide's lone run came on a second-inning RBI single from Abby Doerr, while Montana Fouts (2-0) did the rest in the circle with 7.0 shutout innings and 11 strikeouts against the Hokies.

"It was a day of beating two 5-0 teams coming into the weekend. Everyone who was here tonight could tell that Virginia Tech is a World Series or Super Regional type team. They were a really good team. I'm really glad they decided to come down and play at this tournament. That's just going to help us the rest of the season. Montana was terrific. Sometimes in an old-fashioned fastpitch softball game like that, one hit is all you need and Abby got it done and Montana did the rest."

Who writes these after-game summaries of Bama softball games? Tip of the hat to the author because they are very well written and easy to read. Someone once said "Easy reading is hard, vile writing" so, congrats to the author of these summaries.

OUr girls are swinging at the high rise ball. I think we struck out all 3 in the bottom of first. Very undisciplined whereas their top 4 batters put the ball in play

Yes. She will be big for Bama. If Bailey gets going then we will be very dangerous.
