Would be a pretty big failure after making so many top 5s.

More like top 2/3s. Starting to remind me of an Anthony Grant recruiting season, other than the fact we already have a 5-star and I have confidence that Oats will still fill out the roster with solid players from the portal. So really I'm just spoiled now

In the past, I said this not a program that can recruit like Duke. You gotta look overseas and/or be able to find gems to stay at top level. I hope Nate isn't a five star or bust type of recruiter.

1. This past class didn't have a single 5-star. Partly because we lost out on our big name targets and partly because Oats doesn't just look at stars.

2. High School recruiting has changed in the past few years. In the portal world, unless they are a threat to play immediately (essentially top 100+ level), then there isn't a need to risk losing a scholarship on them for development when you can just wait to find a far more effective immediate transfer.

Hodgson pulling 4*s to Arkansas State. I selfishly wish he would have stayed 1 more year to recruit for us after our historic season

Yep. If you're a top ~25 program, and I think it's fair to call us that right now, you're going to get enough traction with quality portal guys that it's just pointless to recruit high school players who aren't immediate impact guys. Maybe if there is a mutual understanding that the player in question won't play much as a freshman, but even then you're putting a lot of trust in an 18/19 year old's ability to be patient and stick with the plan.

I am hearing from someone I trust well that is usually right (insider on another board that is friends with many head coaches) that Reid to Bama is a done deal.

I think we still get Reid, I think he is doing what Sherrell did and is trying to get a little more money from us and I don't blame him, some other schools are offering him a lot at the last minute. His stock definitely rose with how well he played in that tournament last week.

It was always gonna be hard to get Newell with his brother playing at Georgia but we definitely made his decision hard. If not for his brother we would have definitely gotten him.

6 weeks ago, i didn't think we had a chance. I barely paid attention to him. Making it so close was actually impressive, imo, and the same goes for Jase.

Not saying we won't, but I've never seen Slater this vocal on a recruit and be wrong.

I'm so calm and I think the reason is because Nate Oats is the coach.

We can miss on this guy and whoever else. I believe in Nate Oats.

No reason to panic here if we don't get him.

What I posted is my opinion I have no idea if we get him or not right now. I do know the staff felt like he was a lock when he left his visit, idk whats happened with him since the visit. We have some coaches going to visit him tomorrow, might know more after that.

My opinion is that we still end up getting him I may be wrong.

One of the reasons Oats has been so successful since he got here is because he brings in talented players who fit well in his system. If he starts missing on those type of players there's definitely cause for concern. Reid is one of those types of players.

This staff signed one of the best portal classes, they haven’t forgotten how to recruit. Trust Oats.

I do trust Oats. I don't trust our money guys to come through for basketball the way they do for football.

We got a player out of the portal that picked us over Arkansas, we’ll pay the money if they think the guy is worth it. Miller was worth it, Nelson and Estrada were worth it, Sherrell was worth it, I think Reid is too which is why I feel confident.

Missing out on Richardson, Fland, and Newell had nothing to do with NIL. Richardson wanted to go where his dad went, Newell went where his brother is, and Fland wanted to go to Kentucky for obvious reasons, Kentucky is Kentucky.

All feedback we are getting says bama for Reid. Not sure what to think but at least I am going to bed tonight feeling better about it.
