Alabama’s Essence Cody Invited to USA Women’s U19 National Team Trials
Cody will compete for a chance to make the USA Women’s U19 National Team for the 2023 Women’s World Cup
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Alabama incoming freshman Essence Cody was selected to attend the 2023 USA Women's U19 National Team trials at the U.S. Olympic and Paralympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo., USA Basketball announced on Monday.
Cody is one of 24 athletes selected to compete at the event beginning on May 12. An announcement for the final 12-member team is expected on May 15 as the U19 team prepares for the 2023 FIBA Women's World Cup that is scheduled for July 15-23 in Madrid, Spain.
The selection to the U19 USA National Team trials highlights an impressive senior year for Cody. The 2023 McDonald's All-American was named both a Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year honorable mention and WBCA High School Coaches' All-American honorable mention honoree. Cody also earned national recognition from BallisLife after being selected for the organization's All-American game on May 6.
Cody is the No. 22 recruit in the county and a five-star athlete according to ESPNW. Prior to this year, Cody was selected as the 2021-22 Player of the Year and 2022 Georgia Athletic Coaches Association MVP while with Valdosta High School. She was named the No. 1 post player in Georgia in 2022 and was ranked as the fifth overall recruit in the state. Her performance on the court has garnered back-to-back selections for the Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year watch list and earned her a nomination for this year's Who's NXT All-American game.

I thought we had two scholarships remaining!

I never was sure (based on his stats and school/conference he played at) why some here were so high on him. What is the appeal? I'm not saying that there isn't something that I'm missing. Maybe he's a great defender. The size is certainly solid, but might not be tall enough for a 3-type (might be, though... he's just a couple inches shorter than Walton). What am I missing? He's only had one season of averaging double digit scoring (out of four seasons). The assists and rebounds look meh. The 3 point percentage is decent, but not great. What am I not seeing here?
Played very well against the high-major teams they faced last year (and even the year prior despite less opportunity). While the Big Sky isn't a great conference, Montana State has been the best team in both of the years he's been there. He dropped 27 of his team's 65 points in their loss to Kansas State. He's Uber-athletic and has all the tools to be a lockdown defender (confirmed with Huggins going after him).

Have we ever won 3 of 4 regular season titles?
Let's do that. Rtr.

A couple of the recruiting services updated their 2024 rankings recently so I just updated the first page. The biggest changes were seen in the PF position group which is cool because that is the position group where we currently have the most targets for that class.
- Liam McNeely leapfrogged Asa Newell as the new #1 at the position. I haven't really heard much about us and McNeely since February so I don't think we are actually recruiting him much anymore tbh. But he is teammates at Montverde with Asa Newell, so maybe we spoke with him last week.
- Asa Newell fell one spot. Oats just visited him last week and he and Pannone have watched him play in person multiple times. Seems like we are going to push for him.
- Khani Rooths made a jump and just last week said we were one of the schools he's hearing from the most. He's billed as a truly great defender that can guard 1-4.
- Aiden Sherrell is still a huge priority and a possible reclass candidate. Just took an OV to Oklahoma this past weekend.
- Donnie Freeman fell a few spots, but nothing drastic. I think we would likely have landed him if Hodgson was still here, but now I think he ends up at Syracuse.
- Derrion Reid got a nice little bump as well. We've constantly been mentioned by him as one of the schools recruiting him the hardest and 2-3 weeks ago he said we are still one of the main schools recruiting him and he hopes to visit.
- Robert Miller is a guy that we have been traveling see play quite a bit lately and he said he is trying to set up a visit. He has great size and would seem to be a great fit for us at the 4 or the 5.
- Have not heard anything about us and Sammie Yeaney in like 4 or 5 months so he may fall into the same category as the next three guys.
- I don't think the bottom three on the list are serious targets at all, but they were mentioned at some point in the past so they're still listed for now.

Also, Trilly had this to say about Papa Kante:
Maybe we're tampering?

Last I heard they were trying to get Papa Kante on campus. Nate Oats was so fast to visit that kid when he de-committed it’s almost like he had an idea it was coming.
Maybe we're tampering?

Also, somebody help me out. Am I dumb? Why can't I find the Twitter Community on a laptop anymore? It's there when I use the app on mobile, but I don't see it anywhere on Twitter.com on a laptop. What am I missing?

They moved it - click the circle with 3 dots and it is now in that sub menu. Took me a bit to find it. Trying to find a way to move it back up but haven’t found one so far. #annoying

The what now?
Is this a collection of basketball-centric accounts?
If so, I'm interested.

I think it's the money more than the minutes.

Oats was already in New York watching/ recruiting Boogie Fland. Connecticut is real close.

It is a basketball centric group - go to communities and search for Bama Hoops. I don’t chime in on it but it can be a good source of info.
ps - there’s one for baseball too - Alabama Baseball

Ah, thank you. I actually should have figured that out on my own though.

Not really basketball-centric accounts, but Alabama basketball-centric posts. Between Alabama_Fan joining this thread and that Twitter Community becoming a thing, I don't have to work nearly as hard for this thread as I did in prior years. Both are a tremendous help.

I've never seen a player that hasn't been granted a release after a HC departure.
That is one of the new rules, but I suspect it is a rule just waiting for a lawsuit - and the NCAA is on a big losing streak in court.

Player enters the portal and signs with school X, HC at school X is fired or resigns, new HC at school X informs player that while his scholarship has to be honored by the school he doesn't fit in with the new coach's vision for the team and will not play unless injuries dictate it. Player then has to either transfer again and sit out a year if he has the eligibility to do so or simply never play again. Yeah...that's not a fact pattern I'd want to defend if I'm the NCAA.
