We’ve likely got 3 spots open we will probably sign a backup PG, another guard thats willing to fight for playing time in whats already a pretty crowded guard rotation, and a PF that can hopefully come in and contribute major minutes right away.

This is my guess

Likely Returning

PG-Quinerly
SG-Sears, Griffen, Cosby
SF-
PF-
Center - Bediako, Pringle

Incoming

SF - Walton, Parker
PF - Walters, Dioubate

Thats 10 guys, with the other 3 spots we replace Bradley, Burnett, and Clowney.

I'll go Sam Walters. He's progressed a ton over the course of the past couple seasons. He looked awkward at his height two seasons ago and now looks extremely fluid on both ends of the floor. He's also at a position of need as a 3/4 guy so the opportunity will be there.

Good pick I could I like Walters a lot, I think he is very underrated.

I think if Walters and Parker played for bigger schools that they would be ranked in the top 50.

Well Sears is shopping the draft...I think he backs out after getting some feedback from teams on his deficits.

At any rate, we got a serious front court problems. The 3 and 4 spot seem to really drive the success of the Oats approach. When the 3 and 4 can't shoot and don't have defensive versatility then the team struggles. That's my read at least.

Sears will for sure be back.

I assume we brought Walton in to start at the 3 and I like him a lot. Griffen might start there if he has a really good offseason. Parker should be good there too.

We need to bring in a really good transfer to start at the 4.

Y’all seem to be forgetting that Q seems to be at his best coming off the bench in a 6th man role. He definitely gets starters minutes but someone else can start.

That's debatable but he was starting at the end of the year and I doubt he would come back another year to come off the bench.

As far as has been made public Nate Calmese is the only PG we have contacted that's still available. He would be a very good backup for us next year imo.

As a Tr Fr at Lamar last year he averaged 18 points a game and shot 37% from three.

He scored over 20 points in 15 games and scored over 30 twice.

Wouldn't surprise me if he ends up here.

My thoughts too. We can probably cobble together something at the 3 by playing bigger 2 guards there if the true 3s don't develop a shot quick enough.

Losing Miller is definitely the biggest loss but I think it may be easier to find 3 spot production than what we're losing in Clowney. We don't have anyone quite like Clowney on the roster nor in the upcoming class. At least that is how it seems to me...I hardly follow recruiting anymore.

I haven’t seen Calmese play but Lamar was 9-22 last year and played one Power 5 team the entire season. The same conference Nichols is in, it’s just a step above the SWAC. Again, I haven’t seen the kid play, but he would be stepping up in competition big time.

He is really good, He was rated as the 4th best freshman in the country based on performance last season. Brandon Miller was first of course. Calmese was the 2nd leading freshman scorer in the country behind Brandon Miller.

You're right that the SEC would be big step up in competition.

He would be a very good and important pick up. We've got to get another PG. He can penetrate the lane both directions and can shoot.

I would say Dioubate gets the most minutes but I am most excited about Walters. I think all 3 will be good for Bama and hoping all 3 are guys that hang around at least 3 years.

All I really want out of the portal at this point is a stretch 4 with experience, a bigger Guard that can run point, and any position where a guy we can count on can come in and hit a 3. We've really been missing a sharpshooter off the bench for the past couple seasons.

I also say bigger Guard because just like when Shack was here, I hate how small our backcourt gets with JQ and Sears on the floor together. Generally it's fine but when going against bigger team that are going to play tough on you, it becomes a bit more noticeable.

I am hearing from someone I trust that it will be Preston Murphy, Saddi Washington and Austin Claunch. Murphy and Washington will be great recruiters and Claunch will be the x's and o's guy replacing Henry.

From 247 article about next year's "breakout stars"

quote:

RYLAN GRIFFEN, ALABAMA

Griffen just jumped off the tape repeatedly throughout his freshman season. Griffen found a way to earn 15.8 minutes per game for No. 1 overall seed Alabama, but his role could look so different next season even if both Mark Sears and Jahvon Quinerly return. Griffen drained 41 3-pointers in Year 1. He could effortlessly flirt with 75+ treys next season in an expanded role. There’s so much more to his game that hasn’t been showcased yet, either. Griffen will be a huge piece of the Alabama puzzle in 2023-24.
