Yea that might change things a bit

I have no clue what they're gonna do here. None of the options feel realistic but one of them has to happen.

Not to be a downer, but we might end up losing somebody we really don't want to lose. It's always possible.

I guess the prime candidates for that would be JQ and Shackleford. Neither seems likely on paper, but who knows.

That is actually the thing that makes the most sense. Sure, we could run off a talented young rising sophomore, but that just doesn't' seem to make a whole lot of sense.

What would make sense is if in 3 weeks hear JQ is going to the draft of Shack is leaving or Gary or something that seems random but is just what they wanted to do.

Not to say it's gonna happen, but if it did I think we'd all then go "ohhhh ok the transfer stuff makes sense".

Pretty sure Wilson tweeted out that he couldn't wait to play with Burnett and all the guys yesterday afternoon.

Surely if there was the possibility that he wasn't going to be on the team, he'd already know and not put out stuff like that.

After watching his film, you definitely find room for that guy. He is devonta pollard with an actual shot. He will be an incredible asset offensively and brings some much-needed length defensively.

I do think JQ will put his name in the draft to get feedback like Petty and Herb did, but I’d be shocked if he’s not on the team next year.

Sorry, I haven't been able to follow this off-season thread as much as I did the other one, so I apologize if this has already been discussed.

I just realized that Davison and Bediako are the 3rd and 6th highest-ranked Alabama recruits of "all time," per 247.

Primo and Tchikou are 15th and 16th, respectively.

Thus, in just the past two classes we have signed the top 25% (4/16) of Alabama's most highly-touted players in the two-decade history of this ranking system (and that doesn't consider transfers).

I'd be surprised, but I wouldn't be shocked. Maybe that's just semantics.

I don't know if it's been discussed, but Umude seems like a nice pickup for Arkansas. Mussleman is definitely a transfer portal beast.

There might be somebody that is either planning to try the NBA (JQ) or somebody that realizes they're just not a great fit, and they've already told Nate they're leaving.

I agree - all of the situations where guys leave to make the numbers work end with me saying "I dunno, I just don't see it"

Would be stunned if it’s Wilson. That’d be a pretty raw deal for the kid. And pretty bad look for Nate. I don’t think he’d do that. Seems a move like that would hurt you down the road in recruiting as well.

Jordan Harper seems to think we're just going to keep everyone except Rojas.

But would it be less of a raw deal to do to a kid like KAH or Miles after they grinded through 1 year with no PT to then be like "eh, you gotta go"?

Because personally, I'd rather be told before I showed up that I needed to find something else (and with a kid like Wilson, he would very quickly) then show up, become a part of a team and school and all that, and then we told to leave.

I dunno, neither is very appealing.

"With the expectation that the NCAA will expand the number of scholarships in college basketball"

Is that a thing? Did I miss this?

quote:

For D1 fall sports, seniors who have scholarships and who will be using the extra year of eligibility will not count against the team’s scholarship limit for the 2021-22 season.

Yeah, I don't know. It would explain why we're still going after guys.

Maybe we're just going to reclassify some guys as seniors?

We're just gonna keep signing 'em until the NCAA gives us a hard number

Another clarification note: the ability to exceed the 13 scholarship limit with returning seniors is only applicable in 2021-22. Once those returning seniors have left, teams have to get back to 13.

So, as currently written, it only applies to returning seniors non-transfers. But I don't think we have any of those, do we?

Ellis is a rising senior, maybe he somehow can fall under that provision?

True. But it happens more often. Like Javian or Forbes. It’s pretty rough to ax a kid before he even gets to campus. But you’re right it sucks either way.

Somebody else said that Rojas could decline his redshirt year from 2019-2020 and play this year without needing a scholarship.

Not that we want that to happen
