This football class infuriates me. We lost multiple kids already because of NIL (Nick Smith, Freddie Dilone) but yet we are spending out the arse in football. I hope we give Oats the necessary funds when Portal time comes this offseason

I think we will pony up for a couple of top transfers this offseason if we need to.
Nick Smith Jr is from Arkansas, him signing with them probably had a lot more to do with them being his home state school than NIL. He wouldve gotten NIL/endorsement deals no matter where he went , he was arguably the top player in this class coming out of High School.
I am sure we had to give some pretty NIL deals to sign this top 3 bball class we had.

He was a silent commit for Months and then Arkansas threw a last second Massive NIL at him. Dilone was coming here until Tennessee threw NIL at him the day before.
Why is this class not as good as last years class?? NIL

Not really for this board, but why are you upset about this class? We nabbed possibly 12 of the top kids in the country according to a consensus of recruiting agencies?
Posted on 12/22/22 at 10:09 am to mistaken4193
I think they are going with a different strategy this year is all, sign good underrated recruits out of HS that should be multi year guys then use the NIL money on 2 or 3 top transfers.
We will see.
We will see.

Because we are spending out of the arse for it while being frugal with money we give Oats to recruit

The speculation is that we spent a ton on NIl for this football class and are having a harder time getting NIL money for bball recruits.
I am sure thats true to some extent, football is obviously king here, but I would wait til this bball class is done to judge it, I think we are gonna hit the portal very hard and try to get some top transfers in bball and will have the funds to do so.

Exactly what I understand. I hope that as time passses, we can better show recruits good NIL packages current players have so that they don't just bite on a quick Walmart $800K up front.

I never felt like we were gonna get Nick Smith Jr.I thought it was pretty clear he was gonna go to Arkansas the whole time. He may have led some to believe we were more in it than we were, but I think he was always gonna stay home and play for Arkansas.

Reading the tea leaves we seem to be in the lead for Miller and Bradley (I think we get both) and about 50/50 on if we get Walker or not. Arkansas leads for Nick Smith Jr. currently
I posted that on 9/14 last year, before any of them committed, mostly lucky guesses.

2023 4* Alabama commit Sam Walters (@SamWalters2023) did it all for The Villages (FL) in the tough loss
Walters finished with 22 PTS, 7 REB, 2 AST, 2 STL, and 2 BLK
Lengthy forward that can score from all three levels
LOL, how old is he? The Villages, FL is a massive retirement community.
Also, Labaron Philon tore up my alma mater at the Huntsville Times (I'll always call it that) Classic today.

He is 87, why?

Walker was the only guy I feel like we actually lost on last year, Smith felt like he was all Arkansas but I was legit bummed over the Walker news.

Yeah it seemed for a long time like we were gonna get Walker. I was actually pretty surprised when he committed to Houston.

Five-star junior Dink Pate talks possible visits, commitment timeline
Stockrisers
quote:
Dink Pate, a 6-foot-8 point guard, tells Stockrisers.com he has his sights set on a few visits and has set a commitment timeline. As a freshman at Pinkston (TX), Pate averaged nearly 18 points per game and was Dallas Morning News’ newcomer of the year. He recorded over 450 points in his first high school season. In his second? he didn’t disappoint.
Pate made the move to Prolific Prep for his sophomore season, and despite being one of the team's youngest players, Pate had an immense impact on the program but would wound up going back home to Texas halfway through the season. He finished his season at Lancaster (TX) where he just continued where he left off at Prolific. A nice ending to his high school season led him to a handful of new scholarship offers during the live period last year. Now, at Pinkston, Pate is having an outstanding senior year. Pate has had multiple triple-doubles and has showcased his ability to be a versatile, multi-dimensional threat on both ends of the court.
Coaches rave about this kid and he’s a prospect that I feel is extremely slept on and should be on every college coach's radar. Pate has proven his worth against mostly all of the high-tier prospects in his class and other classes, but, led his way to the radars of some professional options. In an interview with Stockrisers.com, Pate covered everything you need to know about his recruitment.
Which schools are heavily involved? “Arkansas, Auburn, Alabama, Memphis, Georgetown, and TCU.”
Are any new schools making a push? “Florida State is the only one so far.”
What are your overall thoughts on Arkansas, and what are they pitching? “I love everything that they’ve pitched to me. I’m just ready to get down there to campus and learn more [about the program].”
How’s your relationship with Muss and when are you targeting a visit? “Great, I talk to him every day. I plan on visiting sometime next month.”
Thoughts on Auburn and Bruce Pearl? “I talked to Coach Pearl a couple of times, he seems very determined to get me and I feel honored.”
Do you plan on visiting Auburn? “Yes, I definitely plan on taking one to both Arkansas and Auburn.”
How about Alabama? “Yes, probably after those two.”
So, what do you think about Alabama and Coach Oats? “Great coaching staff. They have come down to Pinkston to watch me play. Coach Oats said he’s impressed and it’s exciting to watch me play. I plan to be on an official this [next] time I go down there.”
Do you still have pro options? “To play pro has always been my dream, yes.” G-League, right? “Never really thought about the G-League. Education is a big part of my family.”
When do you plan on committing? “This summer.” List cut soon then? “For sure.”
How would you break down your game? “I’m a point guard, I can facilitate. I have a good IQ, and my biggest thing is just trying to win every game. I can also shoot very well.”
And lastly, how do you feel your game has evolved this season? “It’s evolved a lot. We’ve been winning more games than usual and I’m leading in both points and assists in this district, which is a step up.”

I like Pate, he would be great addition if we can reel him in.

Same. As much as I think Musselman is a whiny bitch I am very impressed with him as a recruiter, Pate said Muss talks to him EVERY DAY. That's dedication, Arkansas is obviously making him a priority.
I feel like it will be Arkansas or us.
