If we got to play the first weekend in BHam I may cry. I’ve never been to a Bama NCAAt game

Looks like we are supposed to land RJ Johnson this afternoon. I hope this isn’t a big reach by the staff if we do end up getting him. I guess time will tell

Just my opinion but him being a take is not a good sign.

NIL is royally gonna frick us and is gonna end up costing us a very good coach.

My hope is we have another great season and get the FOG boosters back involved like they were after 2021 and we can clean up in the portal

I don't mind us taking a chance on a local kid as long as he fits our style of play. With the transfer portal, I think it's more important to land bigger hits there than it is recruiting high school kids.

Doss likes him and would know much more about basketball skill set than I could ever pretend to know. Hopefully it works out for him and us long term.

I think the portal will be very important for us if we aren’t landing top 40 type kids.

My big concern with recruiting right now is numbers. We have a minimum of 5 scholarships that will be available next year + the possibility of big years from any/some/all of Burnett, Miles, Bradley, and Bediako prompting them to declare + the always present potential for portal losses. So there's a strong likelihood that we still need to find another 4-5 players between prep recruiting and the portal, and I'm just not sure where they are going to come from. We don't seem to be major factors with enough recruits to make me comfortable that we're going to land 2 or 3 of them and we sure as hell don't need to be trying to fill 4+ scholarships from the portal. Not unless we plan on bringing some big NIL offers to the table.

If we have 5 scholarships to give, I'm always cool with taking the top player in the state.

The thing that worries me a little bit there is NIL will still a problem in the transfer portal as well. Oats even confirmed that the NIL hurt us in this past portal season.

My hopes is that with a few guys going pro this year, that we have a little more money for the portal guys this time around.

I hope the RJ Johnson kid is a diamond in the rough, and not a reach. We've had a decent amount of top 100 guys in the Oats era that don't ever crack the rotation before leaving. Taking a total project doesn't make much sense in today's world. Save those scholarships for the portal.

I for one am very happy we landed the top in-state prospect today. From what I've read it looks like he's taken his game to the next level over the summer, very excited to see how he produces his Senior year. I'll have to go check him out if they play at Sparkman this coming year.

Did you read the piece CBS did with Golden and Florida from one of the live periods? His strategy as of right now is basically either land a top 25 kid or hold all scholarships for the portal. Seemed like a crazy bold strategy to me

I'd call it crazy. Not bold. Just crazy. If you replace top 25 with top 75 then I'd be more on board with it. If you'd rather go with a portal guy over the #33 recruit in the country then you probably don't trust your ability to evaluate and develop young players.

Our first commit Walters has been looking good. The new commit, RJ, will get a rating bump based on his summer performance at Peach Jam.

Kris Parker, Kaden Cooper, and Davin Cosby are all visiting next month. We have a great shot at Kris Parker, a heavy favorite, and our chances are pretty good for Cooper and Cosby as well. They're all in the top 150ish, 4-star range as well.

At this point, I don't see the need to be concerned. I don't think this is a class where you're going to be able to attract guys for immediate minutes next season. There's a good shot our starting backcourt doesn't change next season and Miller is the only one that's basically a lock to leave early. I think this class is about finding the right balance between recruiting guys you can develop and then filling immediate needs with the portal.

We're also coming off our best recruiting class on paper ever. I'm not ready to declare the NIL our boogeyman yet.

Been high on RJ Johnson since the time he was a sophomore and made a big jump this summer with during the month of June and July. Powerful, tough, hard-nosed athlete who can get to the rim and create for others.
