Hollinger is pretty on point with his analysis of both JD and Keon. I also didn't know Keon was that short (funny coming from a dude that's 5'9"). But 6'3 be 6'6 is a huge deal for the NBA. I bet he signs somewhere, but it sounds like he might not get drafted. He's a great player, but needs to be more assertive in the court. Being a 3 and D got isn't out of the question. But it looks like he's more of a PG size than a wing, like we thought.

I just hope by the end of the year, we actually play like a top 20 team. We did at the beginning of last year. But we looked like shite by the end. But inefficient guard play will absolutely kill you. That's a flaw you can't really cover up.

And we had Shack listed at 6'3".

JD measured 6.05” in socks

He definitely goes in depth on his analysis, but I don't agree with where he places his value in prospects. He also makes some very nonsensical points at times, such as...
quote:
measured just 6-3½ in socks (Alabama listed him at 6-6), which probably nuked his chances of getting picked in the top 40
Basketball heights are listed in shoes. EVERYONE that covers the NBA should know this. With shoes Keon will have a listed height of 6'5" on an NBA roster. I think (or would hope) he knows this, but decided to bend the stats to his narrative which is just a horrible practice when you're supposed to be an in-depth analyst of his magnitude. The fact he lists his height in socks and compares it to his listed height (in shoes) is manipulative as shite. I mean c'mon man...

Which makes it hilarious that he lists him as 6'3" but changes Ellis's height to his height in socks. He's either careless or purposefully manipulative.

but if he becomes even remotely average, he’ll blow by defenders and open up the rest of his game
John Hollinger is still in this phase of watching JD. We've all been there.
quote:
Offensively, I don’t love the optics on Ellis’ stroke, but for his career, he made 37.1 percent from 3 on high volume and 83.1 percent from the line, so maybe I should shut up
To me, Keon's FT stroke is pure. He looks like a 85-ish percent FT shooter. I do think there are a few moving parts thrown in whenever he shoots a 3 though.

How Oats and Few became friends in the bubble - AL.com
quote:
The quasi-home-and-home was the result of a friendship established in one of the more unique settings of recent college basketball history. Alabama coach Nate Oats said he got to know Gonzaga coach Mark Few while in Indianapolis of the 2021 NCAA tournament inside the bubble. Neither coach enjoyed being cooped up in the hotel so they took every opportunity to use the nearby minor league baseball park set aside for team recreation.
“Next thing I knew, he was asking if we would play them out there,” Oats said Thursday. “I don’t shy away from playing big games. I’d rather play a bunch of big games than a bunch of guaranteed wins. So, let’s go for it. It worked out well, we got the win and now they have to return it.”
quote:
Oats said he stays in touch with Few as they bond over shared outdoor interests, namely wake surfing.
“I’ve been sending him videos,” Oats said. “He’s still trying to catch up. He hasn’t got the 360 yet. I beat him to it. I like him a lot. He’s a good guy but I didn’t really know him until the bubble.”

The RollTide.com announcement
Alabama-Gonzaga Set for Rematch in Second Annual C.M. Newton Classic Next Season
The Crimson Tide and Bulldogs met in last season’s Battle in Seattle and will square off this year inside Legacy Arena in Birmingham on Dec.
The Alabama men's basketball program, along with Knight Eady, announced the matchup for the 2022 C.M. Newton Classic presented by Legacy Credit Union at a press conference Thursday afternoon. This year's event will feature the Crimson Tide and national powerhouse Gonzaga in Birmingham, Ala., for the second annual event which will be played on Dec. 17, 2022 inside Legacy Arena.
While this year's C.M. Newton Classic will not be a part of the Alabama men's basketball season ticket package, fans who have purchased season tickets for the 2022-23 campaign will receive priority seating to the event. Alabama men's basketball season ticket holders will have first access to tickets through the Season Ticket Renewal Process, which is set to begin July 11.
New season ticket packages are expected to go on sale in September. Single-game tickets for the public will go on sale later in the fall.
The contest will be a rematch of last season's Battle in Seattle that saw the then-No. 16 Crimson Tide shock then-No. 3 Gonzaga by taking a 91-82 victory in front of more than 18,000 fans inside Climate Pledge Arena. It was Alabama's first road victory over an Associated Press Top-25 team since Feb. 21, 2004 (defeated then-No. 4 Mississippi State, 77-73).
"I am looking forward to playing in front of our fans in Birmingham for a second straight year in the C.M. Newton Classic," said Alabama head coach Nate Oats. "Coach Newton left a lasting legacy within our program, so this a great way to honor what he meant to The University of Alabama, as well as to all of college basketball throughout his career. For a program such as Gonzaga, who is consistently one of the top programs in the nation each year, to come to the South and play us is going to be very exciting for our fans and our team. We can't wait for what I expect to be another electric atmosphere in Legacy Arena."
Tip time for the Dec. 17 contest will be announced later this fall. The game is owned and operated by Knight Eady, a Birmingham-based sports marketing company.

I don't think Oats drinks, so he's a great DD option as well. Win/win situation for Few.
