Gurley has some skinny arse lower legs. It was always strange to me how some dudes are built that way. Calf muscles come naturally for most anybody who does a lot of running. But some guys just have toothpicks.
How many 6’9/6’10 dudes have big calves?

My experience is not many of the ones playing basketball do. But some shorter athletes are built the same way. I just don't understand how guys who are running, cutting, and jumping six or seven days a week don't all have extremely jacked calf muscles.
Not suggesting Gurley is out of shape. It's just an oddity I see often with basketball players.

Tbh, that was my very first thought when I saw it as well and the main reason I even made that post. I was surprised to see not see a brace or even a wrap of some sort.

It’s genetics.

I mean it has to be a good sign that his recovery is ahead of schedule right? From what I know of ACL surgery, his knee is actually already structurally sound. The recovery from the actual surgery is only a couple of weeks. Then it's all about loosening up the scar tissue to regain full range of motion and after that you just spend 8 months working on strength and stability. If he's walking around without a brace of any kind, even fot just a little while, then presumably he has regained full range of motion and is making good progress with stabilizing the knee.

At first, I was thinking, "damn, that's some old racist myth he's spouting."
This is what Google turned up on the first result.

Unfortunately, Hunter says, aspiring athletes just can’t grow a longer tendon in hopes of running faster. Hunter’s previous research indicates that ethnic groups such as African-Americans tend to have longer limbs and shorter calf muscles and thus longer Achilles tendons than Caucasians, which may be a contributing factor to why some African-Americans seem to excel in sports involving running.
The study was funded by the UAB Department of Human Studies. Research collaborators include John McCarthy, William Ogard, Marcas Bamman, Jan Den Hollander, Tamilane Blaudeau and Bradley Newcomer, of UAB, and Konstantina Katsoulis, University of Toronto and David Wood, California State Polytechnic University, San Luis Obispo, Calif.

African American is not an ethnicity. There are more than one type of people that came from African. So I'm skeptical about that study. But there is probably something to what it is suggesting.
ETA: maybe ethnicity is not the right word. If ethnicity is considered a social group, then it has nothing to do with biology.
