Folks are throwing around the 100k number for Lucas. I don’t know how they got that number or if it’s anywhere close to being true but if it is, college basketball is dead if a player like him can command 6 figures.

That's nuts if true, but I honestly can't say I'd be all that surprised. College football and basketball are about to show us what would happen if every pro sports franchise owner was like Jerry Jones and every league was uncapped. When your ROI is wins and not money, the spending will ramp up to an unsustainable level.

This kid wasn’t an all star, or anywhere CLOSE to a make or break recruit, and had stated desire to stay on the West Coast AND play more on ball, which we couldn’t offer a shite ton of. NIL is the least of any concerns here with this situation.

Good point.
THIS IS JUST SPECULATION, but IF Nevada paid him $100K, first off they overpaid. Secondly, we probably offered him something but either we’re broke af or we didn’t feel like he was worth that much. It hoping it’s the latter, but at the same time it’s so late in the process how picky can we be at this point? Not saying it’s the wrong decision to “pass” on paying him or anything but it’s just a tough situation for the staff to be in. NIL is ruining college sports.

I would agree NIL is ruining college sports but I refuse to believe Nevada could outbid us for anyone we cared about one iota.
We just finished a season where we underachieved for whatever reason but there was more than a couple of rumors about players more worried about themselves than about the tram. Now if that is the case, I’ll be damned if I get my feathers ruffled over a guy who wanted to stay out west and who apparently didn’t have a great visit anyway. Maybe the coaches felt he wasn’t a great fit and didn’t push real hard. Whatever the case, the guys we are pursuing now are nothing more than players to fill a role. They aren’t guys we are counting on to start and give us 30 minutes a game and 20 points. If that’s what we’re looking for, we’re in deep trouble. I’m not buying it.

It just astonishes me that the NCAA didn't at least stipulate that an athlete's school's boosters and their businesses were off limits as a source of NIL income.
Disclaimer: the following is hypothetical. There is absolutely no way that any business is going to generate $100,001+ in additional revenue because a decent college basketball player at fricking Nevada is associated with them. A deal like that for a player like Lucas at a school like Nevada would be a one way street with the person putting up the capital doing so with the understanding that they won't get any of it back.

I would make it where a player cant receive NIL from any local business or business with a school alum in a power position until they have been enrolled in that school for a full calender year.
National Brand NILs are still fine.

Sorry for applying his hypothetical situation to our real life situation, we can play fantasy scenario all you want though idgaf, but don’t act all high and mighty like I offered up some bullshite when you’re pulling numbers out of your arse.

News: NCAA Board of Directors adopted NIL guidelines that clarify existing bylaws prohibiting boosters from recruiting, sources tell @SINow.
As @SINow reported last week, schools with boosters who have induced prospects thru NIL will be investigated, including past deals.

NCAA Enforcement has been given the freedom to independently review prior NIL deals, the guidance says.
If deals have egregiously violated bylaws - ie inducing prospects - the NCAA will investigate & could sanction schools, as ADs told @SINow last week.

Somebody in the Twitter Community said "I heard there should be news in a week or two."
I realize that this isn't exactly news on its own, but this is where we're at right now.
