Yea, I think Robot has said it a bunch but if we are just a slightly above average defensive team last year (#40-50) then we are probably a Top 4 seed. Same for turnovers.

Hard to look at this roster and not see a reasonable path to that sort of defense, unless Bradley/Miller/Sears are just terrible defenders (which doesn't seem to be their reputation, but you never know).

And of course that is not even considering JQ.

I think Bradley will be a defensive dog and Miller has the potential to fill that Herb Jones role (to a lesser extent) as a switchable defender at the 4 spot which is where I'd play him. I'm assuming Sears lands somewhere between Quinerly and Shackelford on the bad on-ball defender scale, BUT he at least helps provide steals which should give both our defense and transition game a boost. I maintain the reason that the Shack and Quinerly backcourt was such a defensive disaster revolves around the fact that they were both horrible to overmatched on-ball defenders AND provided nothing in the steals department. I'd love to see where they rank in Steal percentages as a backcourt pairing compared to the rest of the country. I'd wager they're somewhere in the bottom 20.

Yep. Can't say anything critical. Y'all are quick to flame. I'm not calling for anything like Nate's ouster, I'm just saying if you look at his 3 seasons at Alabama, 2 of the did not turn out like me, you, or Nate or anybody else wanted. And some of that is on him. Am I saying he's a bad coach? No. Am I saying he's still got some things to figure out at the high major level? Yes, yes he does. If he's as good as he appears to be, I hope he stays here a long time but I'm still going to call him out when he screws up. I think he would understand that.

Every one of us were slobbering over the coming season last year at this time just like we're doing now. It didn't turn out nearly like we hoped it would, did it? Yeah, we got to the Dance. Would any of y'all accepted that for the result before SEC play? Hell, most of us had legit looking thoughts of a Final Four run. At the end of the day, what we learned is that while we had the talent to play with anyone in the country and win. But Nate and the players couldn't figure out the lack of team chemistry. A lot of that is on him. SHoulda, coulda, woulda, let's hope this team comes together where that one didn't and we kick some arse. And y'all try to remember we're all rooting for the same team.

Major Conference Players 6'5 or shorter (264 players)
140. JD Davison (2.1% steal) (roughly average)
224. Jaden Shackelford (1.4% steal) (bottom 15%)
242. Jahvon Quinerly (1.2% steal) (bottom 10%)

You nailed it.

Nothing significant. All stuff that’s been said here before.

Says that both staffs feel good about Lucas, Nevada and us, but says that he believes Nevada has a slight edge.

Goes on to say that Council is on a visit to Arkansas and that he thinks they could be the leader in his recruitment.

Before Burnett was out for the year and when Tchikou was still an enticing prospect. No one is slobbering over this roster, you must’ve missed the last 10 pages. I’m very optimistic for next season though for whatever that’s worth

Just having a couple more of those backcourt turnover into a lightly contested dunk or layup the other way sequences every game would have made the difference so many times for us. The overall lack of those easy points was a big reason all the numbers said our offense was really good but according to the eye test they fricking sucked. Everything was hard, so it looked like they were struggling more than they actually were. That and the turnover they'd commit every 4th possession.

As we've all noted about 1,000 times, the fact that a team that was ranked the following:

- #300 in 3PT %
- #272 in Turnover %
- #204 in Turnover Creation Defense %
- #168 in eFG% Defense

........was able to easily get into the NCAAT? That should make us feel pretty good about the structure of how we play basketball moving forward.

We were horrid at 3 of the biggest parts of how we play and we still won 19 games and were a 6 seed in the NCAAT. The one thing we were really good at (offensive rebounding), we return 2 of our 3 best at (Gurley/Bediako).

I have no idea how you do that so quickly

But damn. That's worse than I would have expected individually. The fact that we had two of those in the same backcourt probably ranks the pairing in the bottom 5 nationally.

It makes it even more frustrating that we had one of the fastest players with the ball in his hands in the entire country, and we were never able to fully capitalize on that speed because of his (and our) inability to create live ball turnover situations.

Baylor transfer Matthew Mayer has heard from Texas Tech, UNC, USC, Memphis, Alabama, Arkansas and Illinois, among others, he told me.

Mayer is currently working out in Chicago. Still undecided whether to stay in NBA Draft or return to college.

Surprising they’re reaching out then. From the outside looking in he seems like the ideal Manek replacement but idk their situation

I have no idea whether he'd lean that way or not, but that happens pretty regularly. Hell, we did that last year to Langston Wilson.
