Lucas already stated an initial desire to stay out West if possible, so im not really fazed if he doesn’t choose us.

Might as well go into hibernation until the roster is set if this is what you think the scenario is. Lucas had a visit and we’ve heard nothing since except that he’s announcing tomorrow, which just so happens to be a couple days after news breaks on us prioritizing a guard from Davidson. We only have 2 spots, and Lucas is a feature player in a D1 offense.

If we cool on Jones, Lucas is the guy tomorrow, if he doesn’t commit expect Jones to join the fold. If we miss on both I’ll hop on the doom and gloom bus with you but it seems a little premature.

Lol. I'm on no doom and gloom bus. I'm on the "wanting more certainty" bus with this roster. We have a lot of talent, it's just mostly unproven at this level which is a reason for some level of concern.

Also, we might have moved on, but coming up with the "we cooled on him" right after a visit on campus isn't the greatest look. We've already had two of those in this portal season. The fact that we seemed to suddenly move on to another player in the portal is more likely an indication that we got the feeling he was going elsewhere.

I'm not blaming Oats or this staff. It's likely just a location issue and the in he has with Nevada's staff that sunk us more than anything our staff did of didn't do.

Having said this, if I had to choose 2 of the 3 transfers we've been mentioning, I would choose Council and Jones. BUT I'd rather just have one on board at this point.

From what I've been told the Lucas visit didn't go so well and it's coming from the same guy that let me know about JQ almost two weeks before he announced he was coming back. I'm wondering if that's why we're on Jones now.

I prefer Lucas but I really just want a knock down shooter regardless.

Thats a very big problem.

So does Auburn have basketball NIL stuff lined up? I get Arkansas, but curious about others around the league. They got Broome and he was very hotly contested, so I have to imagine that required funds.

Idk I guess I’m not as urgent as this. Give me the best possible two guys who also want to be here other than the quickest group we can get together to please the message boards. The off-season started a month ago, and we had 3 spots to fill, one of those has been filled and we have 3 very valid options for the last two. If we miss on those I’ll hop on your whatever you want to call it bus

Ahh the straw man argument. Literally no one is saying that. In fact, I agree that we have 3 good options which is why I would rather just take one (or two) of them right now than wait on a slight favorite of mine.

Yikes if this is actually true. I understand we have way more money committed to our roster right now, but it's never going to be a good look to be outbid by a mid-major like Nevada.

I’ve been saying this is my biggest worry. Our boosters will pay for 1 or 2 elite high school guys but when it comes to elite portal guys all of our money is going to Football.

It will cause Oats to leave

If you want booster money for basketball, you’d better produce on the court. Consistently! I’ve been following Bama basketball for almost 50 years and one thing has never changed: fan (and booster) support for basketball is a mile wide and an inch deep. If you don’t get the meaning, it means when you’re winning, the support comes in abundance but have a bad year and Coleman is half full. Oats coaches an entertaining style so he’s got a leg up and 2021 got a lot of fans’ mouths watering. Then he followed it with that clunker this season by showing what was possible by whipping Gonzaga’s arse at home then did the most Bama basketball thing ever by collapsing down the stretch in ugly fashion and being a one and done in the tourney. That was cold water down the back of most casual fans which is the huge majority of Alabama basketball fans. He needs to win again this year or the fan interest will start to evaporate.

Mike Jones is the transfer I’ve been begging for for 2 years: a mid major kid that can drain 3’s like Steph Currie. He looks like a must have if this team wants to go places. Sign him up!

I said this several days ago and was pretty much told to be quiet. It doesn’t take a rocket scientist (or crystal ball) to see this one coming.

I don’t see how anybody who has followed this program for the last 15 years could call being a 6 seed in the NCAAt a clunker

I’m sure Sears didn’t come here for free. Have to imagine he got a nice NIL deal.
Lucas wasn’t even going to visit here until last minute. His first three visits were all on the West coast. And most people thought he’d stay out there anyways. I don’t think we should be freaking out about NIL stuff yet. Hell, he might end up choosing us anyway.

I can believe he wants to stay on the west coast, I can believe that he didn’t enjoy Tuscaloosa/Alabama, but I can’t believe NIL would be the deciding factor when it’s us against mid majors.

They aren't mutually exclusive. The price of signing him may have been a nice NIL arrangement, and we didn't/couldn't offer it to him. Nevada probably didn't either, but if all else is equal he was going to stay out West. If you're trying to sign a guy who would not have played for you for free 2 years ago, you're going to have to pay him to play for you today.

“no one is saying that.” *proceeds to say it again in different phrasing*

Oats is being patient, weighing his options of which we have some. I’ll wait for Oats’ favorite prospect, no matter how slightly better you think he might be. I’m starved for news as well but you’re acting like the season starts in a couple of weeks.

That person may still be out there or we may have already whiffed on them. Although, I guess we could take the stance that whoever we eventually land in addition to Sears were the top targets all along.

I think Bridges was the one we really wanted and now we are kicking tires and trying to figure the next best fit and who will actually come.
