We kind of have to like our chances against Nevada if that's true, don't we?

Famous last words

I'd think so, but we also don't know if we've fully committed to him that he has a spot or not. I'd assume so, but with the names linked to us the last few days who knows?

I think the University of Nevada is about 8 hours from where he's from, so, who knows.

There's also the question of role. I don't know Nevada's roster situation, but here he'd probably be playing mostly off ball and essentially be Shack 2.0 for us.

Just kinda weird how this info comes out right after we reach out to Michael Jones

Yeah it definitely feels like one or the other and it’s been radio silence on Lucas since his visit. I love Lucas’ game, good things happen when the ball is in his hands but it’s hard to turn down a 6’5 kid from a potent offense. I’ll trust Oats’ judgement but I’m starved for bball news

I told someone yesterday when I saw we reached out to Jones that I’d rather have him if I had the choice. Dropped 21 on us last year and went 8/9 from 3 in another game. He’d be great off the bench for us. But Lucas is good too so I won’t be mad either way.

Yeah do you take Lucas if you think you have a shot at Council…Council probably doesn’t consider us if Lucas does commit.

I would take the first to commit and be happy with that. If I was the staff, I definitely wouldn’t have a person hold off waiting for another and risk us not landing anyone.

True. I’ll take either tbh.

Joseph had another small update (if you can even call it that). Said his gut feeling is Lucas to Bama but he hasn’t spoken to Lucas yet. The people he talked to told him it could go either way

All his bases are covered now lol

In March of 2019, Purinton assisted Byrne in the search for a new head men's basketball coach which resulted in the hiring of Nate Oats from Buffalo.

"We weren't going to take just any coaching job when we were at Buffalo because we had a great situation there, had made it to the NCAA Tournament two straight years, and we'd recently bought a house that we were renovating," Oats said in a statement. "After Greg (Byrne) and Jeff came up to meet with us about the opening at Alabama, there was no doubt that we were going to make the move to Tuscaloosa. They did an outstanding job of presenting all of the positive things Alabama had to offer and answered each and every question we had.

"Knowing Jeff would be our sport administrator for men's basketball was an important factor, and his support has been a key part of what we are building here. Especially with a new staff coming in, Jeff was invaluable in helping us navigate through the first couple of seasons. We were able to win the SEC regular season and the tournament championship in our second year, and advance to the Sweet 16. The support from Jeff and our administration is a big reason why."

Jarod Lucas is supposed to decide fairly soon. Within 48 hours.
Bama is a finalist, but no guarantees on this one. Nevada should be viewed as a legitimate contender.

SOL EXCLUSIVE: Jarod Lucas expected to pick between Alabama and Nevada at an undecided time in the next 24-48 hours, although that timetable is not set in stone. Alabama sources feel good about where the Tide stands with the talented Oregon State transfer, but Nevada is also a strong contender.
