Everything you mentioned like first step quickness, quick release, and a tighter handle all can be improved by working on it with individuals who know what they are doing!

Not sure of any lingering Covid related rules (never really kept up with those special exceptions related to eligibility) - are we limited to 13 scholarship players next year?

If so, is this the right current count for scholarship players?

Returning (4) (5?)

Gurley
Miles
Bediako
Burnett
Quinerly?

Incoming (6)

Sears (transfer)
Miller
Bradley
Griffen
Clowney
Pringle

So do we have 3 more scholarship spots? (2 if Quinerly returns)?

Nice chart. Thanks.

So definitely 2 more slots to fill through transfer. And then 2 more dependent on Miles and JQ final decisions.

Jeff Goodman's Top Transfers

quote:

1) Kendric Davis, 6-0, 180, G, Jr., SMU
The Numbers: 19.4 ppg, 4.4 apg, 3.8 rpg, 37% 3-pointers (77-207)
The Scout: “Lightning-fast point guard with incredible change of speed. Elite in pick and roll as both a scorer and facilitator. He is a three-level scorer, with terrific finishing over and around help-defense. While he is a very capable three-point shooter, it can get inconsistent at times. Will need to continue to push his range back for the next level.”

quote:

3) Johni Broome, 6-10, 235, PF, Fr., Morehead State
The Numbers: 16.8 ppg, 10.5 rpg, 3.9 bpg
The Scout: “Great touch around the basket. Terrific footwork. Can really pass out of the double team. Can defend multiple positions and erases shots at the rim. Has to work on scoring while facing up away from the basket, and extend his range.”

quote:

6) Terrence Shannon Jr., 6-6, 215, SG, Jr., Texas Tech
The Numbers: 10.4 ppg, 38% 3-pointers (33-86)
The Scout: “Strong and athletic. Good size. Very good in the open floor, gets to the rim with his left hand and can really finish. Catch and shoot, has a one-two dribble pull-up.”

quote:

10) Mark Sears, 6-1, 185, PG, Soph., Ohio – ALABAMA
The Numbers: 19.7 ppg, 6.0 rpg, 4.1 apg, 41% 3-pointers (60-147)
The Scout: “Wired to score and very shifty getting into the lane. Great knack of getting to the free throw line. He’s a small guard that struggled against high-major athletes. Not a great team defender.”

quote:

21) Jalen Bridges, 6-7, 220, F, RS Soph., West Virginia
The Numbers: 8.4 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 33% 3-pointers (37-114)
The Scout: “Great catch and shoot guy, underrated rebounder. Needs to get in better shape, and play with a purpose. Tends to float, and let the game come to him. To get to the next level he needs to develop a nasty/bulldog mentality.”

quote:

25) Antonio Reeves, 6-6, 185, G, Jr., Illinois State
The Numbers: 20.1 ppg, 39% 3-pointers (76-195)
The Scout: “High-level ball skill and quickness for his size. Shot-maker with great touch. Needs to get stronger and add weight. Can play the 1 and the 2.”

quote:

45) Landers Nolley II, 6-7, 210, SG, Jr., Memphis
The Numbers: 9.8 ppg, 3.9 rpg, 34% 3-pointers (37-110)
The Scout: “Excellent shooter. Can put the ball on the floor. Needs to improve his finishing at the rim. Solid on-ball defender. Can improve his rebounding and weak-side defense.”

quote:

49) Jaelin Llewellyn, 6-2, 185, G, Sr., Princeton – CLEMSON
The Numbers: 15.7 ppg, 4.1 rpg, 39% 3-pointers (64-166)
The Scout: “Fast and athletic, has no trouble getting into the lane. Makes shots off the catch and off the dribble. Very good on-ball defender. Will need to improve decision-making and finishing in the paint at next level.”

quote:

73) Darin Green Jr., 6-4, 185, G, Sr., UCF
The Numbers: 13.3 ppg, 39% 3-pointers (87-226)
The Scout: “He can really shoot it from deep. That’s what he’ll bring to the table for wherever he goes. Will be a floor-spacer.”

Give me Bridges and Reeves (with Green as a backup plan) and let's roll.

That's why I'm super skeptical of mid-major guards out of the portal. Hopefully everything works out with Sears, but for every Morant or Lillard there are hundreds of kids who end up playing at a mid-major because they just weren't athletic enough for a higher level of competition.

I think the good news is we aren't bringing Sears in to be an offensive savior with a huge usage rate. If he can efficiently get the offense started, make good decisions, not get run past out front every defensive possession and make open 3s he will have been a very productive addition.

I'm still kind of wondering who exactly is going to be "the man" on next year's team. The guys with the most scoring upside are going to be freshmen unless we sign Reeves. Or are we going to try to pull a 2004 Pistons/2015 Hawks?

Losing Keon, Shack, and possibly Q, we are going to have to have guys put up numbers. Depends on who else we get in the portal, but I’d think Sears is one of the guys we will have to count on next year.

I love Sears’ game but it will be different playing against the SEC night in and night out versus mid major competition and athletes. As we saw with Gurley, sometimes it doesn’t translate like you think it will.

I do think he will be leader and maybe help to change the culture and attitude versus what we saw last year. The main thing I worry about with Sears is defense. What killed last year’s team defensively was having smaller guys out front who couldn’t keep anyone in front of them.

I would probably have Sears as a slight upgrade over JQ defensively but the biggest change is having Burnett in the lineup and being a shutdown kind of guy. Bradley is also going to be a better defender than JD (more than likely). So yeah we still have one kinda undersized guy starting in the backcourt but the pieces around him are taller, longer, and have more defensive ability compared to last season.

I think there will be multiple people...Mark Sears, Nimari Burnett, & Brandon Miller.

Mark Sears is better than a lot of people think and he will have a much better supporting cast so good luck to teams trying to shut him down. (Can score in many ways)

Brandon Miller has an advanced game right now straight out of high school. He can do just about anything you can think of.

Nimari Burnett is another guy who can impact the game in a lot of different ways and once he's comfortable with his knee...I think he will be a good leader for this team.

Other guys: Charles Bediako & Noah Gurley

Brandon Miller, if we’re a legitimate contender he’s lived up to/exceeded expectations and the thought of that is really exciting. With the right arsenal of shooters and competent ball handlers we could be a damn good team next year.
