I thought he was a near lock until the JQ rumors started up and that got me concerned. Biggest need has been filled.
Fill out the rest of the class with Reeves and Bridges and we'll be up there with Arkansas at the top of the SEC in my head (as biased as it may be).

Just need to add Bridges and another shooter.
Starting 5 of:
Sears
Burnett
Bridges
Miller
Bediako
That’s pretty damn strong

#Alabama lands a massive addition out of the portal in Bama native Mark Sears from Ohio. Averaged almost 20 ppg last season. Credit to @AntoinePettway putting in the work on this one for UA hoops

Tim Watts:
This is perhaps the top PG in the portal for Nate Oats and his staff. He was a priority guy once he decided to transfer and the Bama staff is very excited about landing him. Thrilled might be a better word. A very dynamic guard who filled up the stat line including 41% from 3-point. He averaged close to 20 ppg, 6 rebounds and 4 assists but Oats and company consider him not only a facilitator but a guy who is going to be able to score near the basket and outside. Also deemed a great fit with what UA staff is trying to put together for the 2022 season.
Antoine Pettway was the lead recruiter with Sears (who is from Muscle Shoals) and he's got a great relationship. Also was told being back in his home state was big for him. He was very excited about that possibility initially. As always Nate Oats is heavily involved and per a source close to Sears did a great job of filing him in on not only his role next year but just as important how he fits in with the incoming freshman group that is so talented. Seems like almost everyone was interested in Sears and the Tide held off schools like Texas, Memphis, Florida, LSU, Cincinnati among many others. So Sears was highly sought after. Great job all around by the Bama staff.
The Tide staff has been very thorough and methodical with the portal this year. Finding not only the right talent base but also maturity level is a top priority when adding impact guys for next year. They will keep digging.

While his 3P percentage is more inconsistent than I’d like (29% to 41%), his FT percentage (85%, 88%) is what you’d expect out of a pure shooter.

That's what's it all about...coming HOME! You can tell he wants to win here bad.

quote:I wouldn’t worry too much about the 29%. Most guys struggle with the increase in distance of the 3pt line when transitioning to college as freshmen anyways. I think if anything, it shows improvement year over year too which is encouraging to think about moving forward.

I agree with the FT% comments though. That shows that he has a consistent, repeatable shooting form and that bodes well for a good 3PT% as well. I also love the sound of having a steady FT shooter for clutch time next year.
