Already annoyed that Chris Beard is going to somehow get a bunch of the top transfer portal guys to commit and go score 9 points a game for them.

This is why I would kind of be surprised to see Gary back. Even if he slid over to the 3, he's stuffed there as well and you can't expect too much small ball 5 out of him either at this point.
This also doesn't even account for Oats saying to Goodman that he's looking for another stretch 4.

Yea, Gurley is clearly coming back. We signed Pringle for a reason. I'm not sure I see path for Gary to play (and he barely played the last 10 games of the season until Notre Dame). He averaged 9 minutes per game the last 10 games and he played 8 or less minutes in 6 of them.

How would you see that group playing out?
PG - Sears (JR) (65% mins)
SG - Burnett (SO) (65% mins)
SF - Bridges (JR) (60% mins)
PF - Miller (FR) (60% mins)
C - Bediako (SO) (65% mins)
PG2 - Bradley (FR) (40% mins)
SG/SF2 - Reeves (SR) (40% mins)
SF2 - Miles (JR) (25% mins)
SG3 - Griffen (FR) (20% mins)
PF/C2 - Gurley (SR) (30% mins)
PF/C3 - Pringle (JR) (30% mins)
PF/C4 - Gary (JR)
PF/C5 - Clowney (FR)
I just don't see how all 3 of Gurley, Gary and Pringle get minutes as combined backups for Miller/Bediako when we also will probably run some small lineup stuff. 1 of them is not going to play.....or transfer (and that really points to 1 guy).
I honestly have no idea how that would play out, but I agree with your thoughts at the end. I'm actually kind of surprised that Gary didn't/hasn't hit the portal tbh.
Sadly, we also can't rule out our annual lost for the season before the season even starts injury.

I know it - frick.
If we do get Sears/Bridges and then a decent 3rd option......you gotta feel pretty good about your 2 deep across the board.
PG - Sears/Bradley
SG/SF - Burnett/Bridges, TBD/Miles/Griffen
PF - Miller/Gurley/Pringle/Clowney
C - Bediako/Pringle/Gary
That's a lot of experienced players and young talent at almost every spot. Would be very nice to see. So many more options for Oats next season in terms of lineup construction.
Sears can pretty clearly also shift over to the 2 at times. Burnett can play the 2 or 3. Miller can play the 3 or 4. Bridges can play the 3 or 4. Gurley and Pringle can play the 4 or 5, depending on the opposition.
We had a lot of very singular players this year and unfortunately a lot of them were very similar in skillsets. Should be very different in that aspect next year.

I think this is pretty accurate and why I said I thought Miles and Gary would transfer. Also, not sure Bediako gets that % of minutes with fouls and the lack of a 3pt shot. I could see more smaller line ups (like Nova uses) or more minutes from Gurley if his shot comes back.

I think Oats sees Gurley as a big piece next year. A year in the system, probably thinks he'll shoot it better, more usage. Probably a little more leadership. I'm glad he's coming back.

I'm good with it too. He seems like a good team guy and has the potential to give us a big with an outside shot. Hope he gets it going.

I was happier about it when I thought he wouldn’t count as a scholarship but the Twitter consensus is he will count. If he can find his Furman shot, I’ll really like that he came back.

I think Oats sees it, but he seemed to see a lot in Rojas as well. I'm still in the Gary >>>>>> Gurley club. He's just way better defensively and is arguably a more valuable offensive player as well. Hope I'm wrong because it looks like it's in the works, but choosing Gurley over Gary is a highly questionable move for me.

With all the other stuff going on I think it kind of got lost in the weeds - Charles Bediako had a fantastic freshman year.
Out of 156 freshmen who played at least 5 games vs Top 50 teams
- Box Plus Minus (+7.2) (#11)
- Offensive Box Plus Minus (+3.7) (#18)
- Defensive Box Plus Minus (+3.5) (#13)
- Offensive Rating (129.5) (#2)
- Defensive Rating (94.5) (#44)
- Effective Field Goal % (69.2%) (#3)
- True Shooting % (70.2%) (#2)
- Offensive Rebound Rate (12.1) (#7)
- Defensive Rebound Rate (13.8) (#54)
- Block Rate (7.5) (#8)
- Free Throw Rate (66.2) (#2)
- Fouls Called per 40 Minutes (6.2) (#145)
That is an exceptional season for a raw big man. Especially one is going to return next year. The guys that were in front of or right around him in most of those big man stats like block rate are Chet Holmgren and Jalen Duren - both of which will be gone to the NBA.
The 2 areas where he needs to really improve are defensive rebounding (strength and experience should help) and foul rate.

I was very happy with Chuck. Gotta get a little weight on him and get tougher/stronger and he will be real nice

I could have sworn that Super Senior years will not count against the 13 scholarships

Yeah, I was surprised with how ready he looked. I was not super high on him and thought he would take a while to be effective. Happy to say I was wrong.

Agreed on Chuck. If he can get his strength up to where it needs to be, he has a Walker Kessler type of ceiling on defense. I'm not saying that he will win the Naismith DPOY next year, because that's a stupid thing to try and predict. But Chuck absolutely has the potential of being a maniac in the middle and affecting every shot within eight feet of the rim.
Really need him to have the mindset that grabbing 10 boards a game is his baseline next year. He's too tall, long and athletic to average four boards a game like he did. That number needs to be eight at a minimum next year.
ETA: eight rebounds is actually his career high. I want him to average that next year and I don't think that's too crazy.

Need him to get in the mindset to go up as strong as possible. Too many times this year he wasn’t aggresive enough on stuff like that

Supposedly you didn’t count against the scholarship limit if you were a senior during the Covid year. Everyone else gets an additional year to play, but they still count.
