I do not believe JD will ever be able to consistently get his own shots and score points as a lead guard at this level or professionally though. Maybe I will be proven wrong, but I just don't see the explosive player he was billed as unless he's jumping or running the full length of the floor. Once he's 3-4 steps up court he's flying, but you don't get those 3 steps in half court situations. You have 1-1.5 steps to get an angle on the defender, and if you don't then your drive is cut off or you're running into the help. JD's first step often looks like he's wearing ankle weights.
I was surprised at the lack of explosiveness with his first step given he can jump out of Coleman standing still.

George, you must’ve hit a slow down in busy season

You HATE JD anyway so it doesn't matter what's said you'll just spin it!
Literally no one has made any comments about him that even border on personal. You can think someone is a bad basketball player without having any animosity towards them.

Yea, I'm done with this JD shite. I like him, I wish he'd been better, but I think he had a very below average season this year. I'm getting tired of arguing about it.

Agree other than "he needs to cut his damn hair!". Thats mostly twitter imbeciles though

LSU hiring McMahon from Murray State with their current situation is a pretty solid hire.

Yeah I'm kinda surprised they were able to actually hire anyone who wouldn't have been their basketball program's version of Shula. Maybe he thinks he can salvage the roster and have a good season to parlay into another job before the sanctions hit. Murray State HCs have historically been really hit or miss when hired to bigger jobs though.

That is definitely the big question. Murray State, VCU, Western Kentucky for a while. Jobs where the school always wins and it's hard to determine if it is the coach or the program.
I don't really know anything about him other than their results.

His coaching mentors were Buzz Peterson and Steve Prohm, so maybe it's not that great of a hire.

What do we think about Shackleford's future? Any chance he returns next year?

The only power-conference jobs open at this point: South Carolina and Seton Hall. (Missouri technically, but that’s a rubber-stamp deal with Dennis Gates in the next 24 hours.) Seton Hall is expected to hire Shaheen Holloway once Saint Peter’s dream NCAA Tournament run ends.

As for South Carolina, the search has been something of a disjointed mess, per multiple sources. School has missed on a number of candidates, while others got tired of waiting and backed out, sources said. Plus: Sean Miller passed. Tough 72 hours for the program.

Sources have said that Chattanooga's Lamont Paris and Wake Forest assistant BJ McKie are the two primary targets. We'll see if it winds up being either, or if a surprise name emerges late in the process. (I was also told Matt McMahon passed days ago on South Carolina.)

Goodman says Maryland is a better job than Florida and LSU. Not sure I agree with that in 2022.
ETA: i'm also not considering incoming sanctions.

Florida, no. Most jobs are better than LSU in 2022 though.
Generally I think Maryland is one of the most overrated programs in the country. Especially now that they're in a conference they have zero historic or cultural ties to.

quote:Nobody here would be upset if JD decided to return. But everyone generally recognizes that he has significant work to do to become even an above average SEC point guard.
I said a long time ago that he had certain things to work on and that was learning how to break defenders down!
It's easy to nitpick at everything JD does wrong but won't speak truth on what he does right!
The fact is that JD is nowhere near what was advertised, though that's not really his fault. Recruiting services had him rated higher than both Josh Primo and Kira Lewis, approaching Collin Sexton territory. Considering that, and the fact that JD is older than Josh Primo and only a year younger than Kira Lewis, it's understandable that people expected something more than what they got, which is historically bad ball security, poor defense, below average shooting, good rebounding, and an occasional elite pass or dunk.

If one didn't know about his high ranking and just watched him play, then most would view the guy as a 3* project from a small high school.

I think it’s a good time for both sides to move forward.

I recently heard pundits discussing the Maryland job like it was Duke or UNC? I don’t get it.
