His height would help but he is very thin. He would have to bulk up a lot and improve offensively to get any significant time next season.
Moving into year 2 would be where we could expect him to seriously help us out.

You can't teach 6'11 and with some time in a top notch S&C program surely they can put a few LB's of good weight on him. At 6'11 and 220 or so he could be the rim protector we need in certain situations.

I don’t expect much if anything from him offensively in year 1, but it’ll be nice to have another 6’11 guy on the roster to put out there defensively against teams that have legitimate post presences. It’ll give us a much better chance than when we were asking Rojas or Reese to stop a true 5.
I kinda feel like as a group we are starting to place a little too much emphasis on a big's ability to do things like shoot and handle the ball when assessing how they'll fit into our system. I actually don't think Oats has any issues playing a big who doesn't shoot as long as he defends, rebounds both ends, and passes well. Gary doesn't shoot, but he's a dog. I guarantee you Oats loves how he plays.

Pretty sure he needs Gary to improve his outside shot for next season. He didn't have many other options available ready to contribute.
In this offense, you need the big to be able to pull their defender from the basket. We struggled the most when our opponent's big was able to stay in the lane to affect the drive from Q, Shack and others. It's extremely important in this offense.
I won't be disappointed if we get Bediako or a transfer. Either will go along way to help us. Just feel the transfer would be more ready.

Bediako is better than a lot of posters here think
Offensively he is not good. He will not pull anyone away from the basket. Expect nothing from him offensively. He will help defensively because he is 6’11....but he isn’t athletic and I definitely don’t see how he is top 30 overall.
Hopefully he proves me wrong and I will gladly eat my crow if he does
I would rather roll with Ambrose, Burnett, and Gurley

At the worst he will get a ton of dunks like Donta Hall did. Bediako will be pretty unstoppable around the rim. Bediako can also shoot well enough hit threes, he shoots over 30% from three. I think he be solid offensively year one while being really good defending the paint and rebounding.

Tchikou and Langston Wilson will both play more than him. Gary too

As far as I can tell Bediako is 1-2 from 3 point range in international games. Not sure Dirk ever shot it that well.

I like that him and Tchikou have different skillsets and can used situational. Tchikou looks like he can be elite on offense and Bediako can be elite on defense and rebounding.
I wouldnt want to bigs exactly like tchikou or two exactly like Bediako, its good they they are different.

Looks like Carolina didn't throw out BIG money to get a coach.

Bediako shot 40% from three in HS last year. Not sure how well he is shooting it this year.

Bediako's biggest improvement was his outside shooting. Briski said Bediako was just under 40 percent from 3-point range on about 30 attempts last season. "Because of his ability to shoot, he's developed into a real mismatch nightmare," Briski said.

I personally like us adding Bediako for his length and potential development, I just don’t see him giving us much on offense unless he stays multiple years to develop. I hope I’m wrong.

Agree with this. Anthony Davis was 3/20 from 3 his one year at UK, and Karl Anthony-Towns was 2/8. Both of those guys shoot quite a few 3s now - Towns shot almost 8 a game last year. Shooting is something that can definitely develop over time.
Bediako may not be on their level, but he doesn't need to come in and shoot 3s all day to be a huge asset. I don't think Oats would've turned either Davis or Towns away.

I know. I think he will surprise some people with his offense, he is pretty skilled to be as big as he is and has a really high ceiling if his shooting continues to develop.

If he can actually shoot it, great.
I don't really know much about him - like frankly all of us I assume. I don't think 247's scouting report on him is especially glowing, but they also have him ranked as the 26th best player in the country.
Like most people, I'm just mildly bemused by his recruiting journey.

Id pay more attention to where he is ranked and which schools are recruiting him in determining how good he is more than his scouting report on 247. He could’ve literally committed to about any school in the country, Duke and Michigan want him bad. He is a very good prospect. He is arguably the 2nd best center in this class.

Do they say anything about Burnett or Gurley? Because they're committing this week too and in order for either of them to be able to sign with us we'd either need one unexpected draft declaration + agent hire or a transfer out.
Tim said he's definitely not ruling out either one of them committing to Bama and that he's going to try to find out more.

Herb wasn't elite from three but we sure ran our offense through him a lot. If we had a post threat that could pass and finish inside and the defense had to collapse to help on him he could throw it back out to all those shooters for open threes.
