Adding Griffen to this class would jump us up to the #3 overall class as of right now.

Apparently the Houston visit this weekend solidified it for Jarace Walker. The visit was a huge success and locked him up.

I do not expect Jarace Walker in this class after the commitment of Clowney. I was told earlier it would be one or the other (between Walker and Clowney) with the UA staff focusing on a true center with one of the remaining spots. That guy could come from JUCO or transfer portal. Walker obviously is a good player. But UA staff seems to have a role carved out for every guy they pursue. If we hear anything different we will let you know. He announces this Thursday.

I believe it was first come, first serve so to speak. That was implied to me late last week. I don't know exactly how it went down yet.

Tim Watts regarding Walker and then on Clowney/Walker committing for the same spot

Like I said before, it sucks to miss on Walker but Bradley, Miller, Clowney, Griffen, and a couple of transfers is just a flat out incredible class. We're going to have to get used to this whole multiple top 50 players in every class thing.

Sounds like my hunch that we weren't confident on Walker and went full court on Clowney was somewhat accurate.

Most interesting thing to me is that they want to focus on getting a center

11/4 - Expect Jarace Walker to commit to Houston.

11/9 - We should add a commitment from Rylan Griffen.

11/10 - Expect Kimani Hamilton to go to Mississippi State. Speculating here, but I would have to think that the staff already told him we don't have room for him and he doesn't hold a committable offer.

That really only leaves Ty Rodgers as a potential 2022 commitment. He will most likely stay up north at either Illinois or Michigan State. Memphis is also a possibility, but I don't think it is likely that he joins our class.

There is a guy in Juco named Nick Pringle that we supposedly offered not all that long ago, but based on the lack of information about/around him from pretty much anybody relevant in the recruiting industry, I kind of doubt it is a commitable offer and would be very surpised if he became a part of this class.

So that might wrap up our 22 class after Griffen and the staff can shift their focus more to the season, the 23 class and keeping an eye on the transfer portal.

Bediako a one and done?

Tchikou a portal casualty?

It makes sense to me. Bediako is the only true center we have on the roster. Tchikou (if he pulls his head out of his arse) is more of a stretch 4, as is Gurley. Even if they think really highly of Bediako, I think not really having anyone to replace Bruner last year is going to make front court depth, especially on the defensive end, a priority for the staff going forward.

And honestly I'm pretty cool with it. I love Walker's game for how unique of a player he is, but Clowney's skill set for a guy his size isn't exactly common.

Especially with Bediako and Tchikou already on the roster. Makes me think the staff doesn’t expect either of them to be in Tuscaloosa for more than a couple years.

Yeah, it's pretty difficult to be too disappointed in missing on one 5 star guy, considering we got two along with (likely) two more guys ranked in the top 65.

I sadly think Tchikou transfers after this year unless he sees a lot more minutes this year than it looks like he’s going to get.

As for Bediako, I don’t see him developing enough after one year to get a 1st round grade, so I think he should stay at least two years. Hopefully that’s what he thinks too.

My question about the whole “only one spot” for Walker and Clowney situation Watts alludes too (and he’s got better sources than just about anyone) though is that we’ll lose Gurley, Rojas, and possibly one of Tchikou and Bediako after this year, so I don’t see how we wouldn’t want to take Clowney AND Walker for a couple of those spots. That would have left us the ability to take a transfer center-type if Bediako or Tchikou bolts and we’d have a more typical one-and-done big in Walker and a longer-term prospect in Clowney. Seemed like a slam dunk plan to me.

Seems more logical that Walker just decided he wanted to go to Houston so then we knew Clowney was a must get.

I had to put my dog to sleep a few hours ago. The last week has been pretty shitty in general. Glad to hear some damn good news. I would've been happy for either of them. Hell, I thought we might miss on both. Regardless of how we finish, Oats is fricking killing it.

Nothing, just thinking out loud about possible scenarios.

Ugh, sorry, man. I had to do that about a year and half ago and it's still rough to think about.
