If you wanna be all technical, look how many top guys were on our roster that just won the SEC championship and went to the sweet 16. Three 5 star guys, with one bing John Petty, who never panned out to be fully what we thought he’d be (although I’ll still forever love John Petty and one being a transfer playing his first real basketball in almost 2 years. If you expected a national championship in year 3/4, then shite you’re more insane than I thought. Also, 5 star one and done guys don’t just guarantee you titles, you have to have a balance of elite talent and some 2-4 year guys. Kentucky is approaching what,10 years since they last won one? They missed the tournament all together last year and they’re notorious for going all in on 5 stars only, and they haven’t exactly lived up to the “Kentucky standard” trying to do that in CBB’s presently changing landscape.

So I’d pipe down a little bit. I have full faith in Oats and if theres anytime to hit the panic button in regards to recruiting, it’s far from now.

The highest-ranked recruit on campus this weekend wasn’t a football prospect, it was five-star small forward Brandon Miller. The Antioch (Tenn.) Cane Ridge prospect was in town for an official visit.

“It was great,” Miller told BamaOnLine. “It was probably one of the better visits. I went to the football and game and they were chanting my name. It was just a good experience.”

Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats and assistant Bryan Hodgson have been working on Miller, an Alabama legacy (his dad, Darrell, played football at UA in the 1990s).

“That I would get better and pursue my dreams there,” Miller said of the message from the Tide staff. “I think they’d use me as a stretch guard, kind of a mismatch.”

UA freshman JD Davison, a former five-star recruit himself, hosted Miller.

“That’s my guy,” Miller said of Davison.

Along with Oats, Miller sat down with head football coach Nick Saban as well.

“That was a great talk,” Miller said. “Coach Saban doesn’t know a lot about basketball. He knows the basics. He talked about points and tried to compare it to football.”

The highlight of the visit was the football game atmosphere.

“Probably the student section chanting my name at the football game, just being around that environment,” Miller said of his favorite part.

Miller had set a decision date for Sept. 27, but has postponed that timeline.

“It should be coming up soon,” Miller said of his timeline. “I don’t know what date or what month. (I just need) more time to think about it.”

Miller had narrowed his list to Alabama, Tennessee State, the G League, or NBAL (Australia). There’s one more addition now.

“I recently added Kansas in there, too,” he said.

A G-league and Kansas visits are in the works.

Has any team or direction pulled away?

“It’s kind of early. I still need to do some more thinking,” he said.

Don’t really like the Kansas news, but it sounds like an otherwise positive visit. Did KU miss on someone else to come after Miller this late?

Call me pessimistic but I can’t believe any of these developments are good for us.

Knowing what we know about Bill Self's recruiting "style", I'd take this development to mean that he has his hand out and we aren't willing to make an offer comparable to the G-League or NBL.

At this point I just hope we are able to sign 2 or 3 good high school players and round out the class with some of the better portal kids.

Reading the Arizona board, their mods think he is all ours now, and would be surprised if ended up at AZ.

That's excellent news, especially right before Jarace Walker's OV.

Same. I know it's an all out bidding war for half (at least) of the 5*s behind the scenes, so it shouldn't be a big surprise when things are all over the place with some of these kids.

For real though, with Miller suddenly having some 11th hour interest in Kansas how long before he's in Baton Rouge for an OV?

We seem to have lost Nick Smith and probably Brandon Miller (his visit comments were not positive) but if we could get Bradley and Walker plus Griffin and maybe Clowney, we would have a great class for fall.

Nate needs to get a booster to give a local business $1M to give to Miller and be done with it.
