I object to playing this series. We have purposefully avoided South and UAB for years, so as not to legitimize their programs any more than they already are. Both have fallen off some, but back in the 90's, they were both scary mid-majors that would like nothing more than to hang an L on the state flagship school. USA got paired with Bama in the NCAA tourney one year and proceeded to hand us our arse. These are no win games for us. Win and you were supposed to; lose and you boost their program. In a state where basketball talent is not exactly rampant.
Let me be clear; I don't fear UAB or USA, but I'm just kinda a bitch.
With a mom who went to Bama and South, I'm thrilled to see Bama play them.

Top-25 basketball recruit likes Alabama style, plans to visit
Coming off last year’s breakout season, the summer plan for the Alabama basketball program is clearly to parlay that into success on the recruiting trail.
The 2021 class ranked 12th while Nate Oats’ staff is still working on the first verbal commit of the 2022 cycle. Julian Philips of the Columbia, South Carolina suburb of Blythewood is among the top uncommitted prospects Alabama’s pursuing and he recently put the Tide on his top-10 list.
The power forward is the top four-star prospect on the 247Sports composite as the No. 23 overall recruit in the 2022 class. Phillips spoke with AL.com on Tuesday about his recruitment and what he sees in Alabama.
“I think they have a great program,” Phillips said. “I think last season, they played great. Coach Oats, I think he’s a good coach. I talk to him a lot. So I think they have a great staff and great team there. I think they’re doing some real good things.”
Alabama is coming off a 26-7 season that included an SEC championship, a No. 2 seed in the NCAA tournament and a trip to the Sweet 16. Phillips is a fan of the style of play Oats brought to Alabama two-plus years ago.
“They get up and down and shoot 3s and play hard defense,” Phillis said. “So, I have watched them and I could see myself fitting into something like that.”
Phillips’ list of 10 programs he’s still considering includes Alabama, Kansas, LSU, Florida State, Tennessee, UCLA, Clemson, Florida, Virginia and USC.
He hasn’t made a visit to Tuscaloosa yet but he’s working on setting up a date to make a trip to Alabama soon.
In terms of timelines, he hasn’t set anything specific but said he plans to commit before his senior season. That final year of high school basketball will be played away from his hometown after recently transferring to Link Year Prep in Branson, Missouri.
At 6-foot-8, 200 pounds, Phillips has the size and athleticism that Oats values within his up-tempo style. On his list of factors that’ll decide where he signs is the style of play, track record in developing talent and a good academic program. He plans on majoring in communications to possibly pursue a career in broadcasting after basketball.
Playing time is also up there.
“I do want to come in my freshman year and make an impact and play some good minutes,” Phillips said.
Alabama currently has a few power forwards on the roster but graduate student Noah Gurley would be gone by the time he arrives. Juwan Gary, a product of Columbia, South Carolina, would be a senior for the 2022-23 season as would Keon Ambrose-Hylton.

Looks like the CB that Dushawn London put in for Jarace Walker to Houston has been removed.

Travis Graf from Rivals changed his Jaden Bradley to UK prediction to unlikely yesterday.

Seeing these Bradley and Walker predictions to other schools get erased is really good news. I don't know how we could get any better publicity than we have seen with Herb and Kira and Primo in NBA summer league, which these guys do watch. No doubt we are also sending recruits the Boot Camp videos. How could recruits not want to play for us?

Not a single opponent out of the top 100 until Vandy and they are borderline… that’s amazing.

Noah Clowney was one of the biggest stock risers of the recently completed travel season as he went from an unranked prospect with just a couple high-major offers to a highly ranked four-star prospect with dozens of high-major offers.
The explosive, skilled 6-foot-10 forward out of South Carolina is now ready to take the next step in his recruitment though as he trimmed his list down to four on Wednesday. Alabama, Florida, Indiana and Virginia Tech remain in the mix.
He’ll start his official visit tour to all four schools with a stop at Indiana on August 27th, followed by Florida on September 3rd, Virginia Tech on September 10th and Alabama on September 24th.
IN HIS WORDS:
On Alabama:
“I like the coaches. I liked their playing style. They play really fast. I could show a lot with the way they play in transition. They run good half-court sets there too. I just really like it and want to go visit.”
On Florida:
“They sent me some film earlier and I enjoyed it. They run a lot of sets that I feel like I could succeed in. I’ve been talking Coach [Mike] White a lot.”
On Indiana:
“They have a great resume’ as a program. They have good people up there. I haven’t seen much of their playing style, but I hope to learn more about it. I know Coach [Mike] Woodson played there and coached in the League, but college is different.”
On Virginia Tech:
“They also have great people. They were the first high-major Division 1 school to hit me up. I know they said the bigs do a lot of their scoring, so I think it could be a good opportunity for me as far as scoring the ball. I think it’s a great opportunity there too.”
RIVALS’ REACTION: From talking to Clowney about each school, it’s hard to detect which way he’s leaning as he heads into these visits. He mentioned that he’s put together his own big board with each school on it listing the pros and cons of each school on his list. As he takes his visits, he plans to update his board and then make a decision from there. He plans to take a week or two after his last visit to make a decision and then will sign with the school of his choice in November during the early signing period.

Man, good for him no matter where he ends up. This is how it should be done. Too many guys base this stuff on feelings and emotions even though pretty much any big college in the country can be a good time for a weekend.
