Petty will have options. I know he has the kid so it might not be an option, but he could probably make well and have long career if he went overseas. That versus bouncing back and forth from the G League might be an alternative if he can make it work family wise

Not that it matters much, but ESPN's mock for 2022 has JD drafted at #11 and Q at #57.

Very happy with Primo going that high. He's a lottery pick and goes to a great organization like the Spurs. A lot of people have that pick down as their "reach" but almost all admit they haven't watched him play or didn't catch many Bama games. I think they need to realize this guy tore it up on the international circuit before getting to Bama and was still able to impress here with a smaller role. If he continues to develop his ball-handling and passing traits without losing his shooting touch, the dude is going to be a stud at just 21 if all goes right.

Just Herb getting drafted is an accomplishment but going top 35 is impressive. I'm not the biggest NBA guy anymore but may have to start pulling for the Pelicans. He should have a long career if he can continue to develop his shot.

Next year JD should make another lottery choice. I could see JQ being a late 1st round pick if he puts up similar numbers to the stretch run he had late last year. Tchikou is the wild card, if he stays healthy he's gone, just depends on what he shows the scouts. Similar to Primo, he may not have the biggest role next year but he's going to kill it in camps and workouts. I think we have a good shot at two lottery picks next year.

Petty's problem is versatility, or rather the lack thereof. He's a 3&D wing skill set in a smallish 2 guard body. He will have to develop the consistency with his shot be never was able to find in college. If he can turn himself into a year in and year out 40% 3pt shooter then he will get some looks as an instant offense bench guy. Those type players can have long careers.

I agree for the most part. His NBA future rest entirely on consistent shooting that wasn't there last year (or his first 2 years), but he was pretty consistent his Junior year here.

I watched a decent bit of him and I'll admit he's a huge reach at 12. The only reason he made late first round sense is projecting that he would have been a lottery prospect the next year. Selecting him at 12 in a loaded class kind of defeats the upside pick reasoning. Absolutely stunned he went before Moody.

I'd understand it in other drafts, but with as loaded as the first round prospects were in this draft, that was a massive reach. That isn't to say that he doesn't have a great NBA career, but more so that I'm not sure the risk here was worth the reward in this situation.

That's why I said consistency from year to year. The Petty who shoots 35-37% from 3 has no NBA future to be totally blunt about it. The version of Petty who shot 44% from 3 is a guy NBA teams would want on their bench. I think if he had shot over 40% from outside again last season he might have been drafted, because that's the kind of consistency NBA teams wanted to see from him after his junior year.

Nate Oats said John Petty will play in the NBA summer league with the Pistons, Petty's agent told Oats. Oats said the reason Petty didn't get drafted because he had knee injury that kept him from working out with the teams.
