I'd compare Caleb Houston to Shannon Hale I think.

Meanwhile....Caleb Houstan scored 7 points on 1/10 3pt shooting. Good thing we let his scrub arse go to Michigan amirite

Would take him today if he wanted to come.

Agreed. The 5 blocks today is much more impressive. But again, it was against Japan.

Will be interesting to see how he continues to play in the tournament. Some of yall want to stick your head in the sand over these games, but the truth is the player he is today will be very similar to the player he is going to be for us this season.

If people expect Bediako to show up on campus and be Zion Williamson then that's their problem.

Bediako is also a guy who is very talented and very suited for our style of play. His performance with the equivalent of an all-star team that is a collection of players and not a system oriented team isn't going to be worth a whole ton of value IMHO. His first year will be all about pick and roll action on offense (see Capela/Trae for Atlanta except with a pick and pop action as well), rebounding and being a deterrent at the rim defensively. And my guess is for the first month or two his biggest asset to us will be blocking shots, rebounding and the threat of rim runs with JD and JQ. And he'll probably have some games where he looks lost on both ends of the floor. He and JD/JQ will have to develop chemistry in their feel for each other and the decisions they wan to make.

“Bediako, I think we measured him at 6-11 ¾. He’s 7-foot and long and athletic. He’s a guy we haven’t had here. You can throw lobs to, he’s a rim protector." - Nate Oats

. Did anybody have a better dunk than Miles last year?

I didn’t have an account but I lurked last season and I was surprised no one mentioned the Georgia player body slamming his arse into the ground after the dunk.

Also, just for full disclosure, the Japan-Canada box score is up on the FIBA website. Bediako had a decent, efficient game. 8pts, 5 rebounds, 5 blocks in 16 minutes on 100% shooting from the field and the line.

So the sky hasn’t fallen yet, nice.

I agree with everything in your post. I havent seen yet how effective he can be in pick and roll, and i havent seen team canada attempt to use him that way.

I dont disagree. I just wonder where that fits in with the offensive system. Because outside of those two things, i dont know what else he can do for the team this season. He does not appear to be very active working for rebounds. I prefer a Chris Hines type over a Jimmy Taylor type.

He had a great game today, some people really overreacted over him having a bad game yesterday.

Today he had 8 points, 5 rebs, and 5 blocks in 15 minutes, extrapolate that out to 30 minutes and it's a triple double.

He's a freshman big. Lobs and rim protection is pretty much what you get from all but a few freshman bigs.

You've watched him play one fricking game where he was in foul trouble.

Well at least his performance against Japan upgraded him from Carl Engstrom to Jimmie Taylor.

Jimmie taylor was taking souls against florida when retin fouled out in Avery’s first year. Jimmie has my respect solely from that game

nice looking stroke from the line. i could see him expanding that to make a 3 or two on occasion next season.

In one of his highlight videos it shows Bediako hit 4 or 5 threes in actual games, not sure what his percentage was but he can for sure make one.

It seems based on your reaction to the first game that we can extrapolate 8/5/5 in 16 minutes to 20/13/13 in a 40 minute game. Why that's a triple-double per game - surely you would take that. Add in Oat's coaching and Bediako should increase that at least a little to maybe 25/15/15. Has anyone ever averaged 15 blocks per game? Wow, Bama fans have a lot to look forward to.

yea i never got around to seeing much of his senior year stuff but thats good to know. ofcourse not expecting garza range or anything crazy, but if he could keep defenses somewhat honest along w/ the junkyard stuff we expect from him then thats no doubt a gold mine for our system. the potential is pretty obvious.
