If you get some young guys with the wrong mental makeup off to a slow start and they get bitch slapped a couple of times, you can lose a team in a hurry. I've seen it happen to good coaches and bad ones. I don't expect that, and I think Nate is good enough to fight through it, but it's a real danger, nevertheless.

JD works on his shot daily just like JQ had to do but people think he's a one trick pony. JD best attribute is his passing ability. He is the best passer on the team right now! Jusuan Holt is going to shock people!

JD cant shoot?

Not right now. Multiple people who have saw practice Have all said he is not a great shooter..... and he doesn’t need to be. But he needs good shooters around him to knock down his passes.

I have probably seen about 15 of his games over the last two years and he can definitely shoot. He isn't a great shooter, or maybe even a good shooter yet, but he is solid. I think he will shoot at least 30% from three.

JD kind a reminds me of Sexton because they both was labeled as non shooters but they were more midrange coming out of high school. JD's shot has improved so much since his Sophomore and Junior year. The AAU circuit saw just how improved JD was when he played against top talent on a daily basis. You all can let this little practice information fool you...he is not a good shooter yet! He is the best PLAYMAKER and PASSER right now. The practice info stated he couldn't guard JQ...well JQ couldn't guard him either that's facts but lets be real nobody could guard JQ last season anyway so I'm not expecting JD too right off the bat!

I still think we can be really good, it’s just that now there are lot of unknowns and maybes. How good is Burnett? Can Miles take the next step? Is Tchikou healthy and how much should we expect from him? Is Bediako a project or a contributor? With Primo and Shack, that’s a lot of points and scoring, and we wouldn’t have to rely on the unknown as much.

And we really need to add a shooter. Losing Primo and Shack leaves a hole there.

Burnett will be a different animal in this offense and you can mark my words! What will offset alot of things is our tempo will be alot faster because you will have better ball handlers everywhere or should I say much improved ball handlers now with the tempo being even faster shoot that alone will lead to more opportunities to score so I'm banking on that because we got guys who really can finish at the rim!

I hope I'm wrong, but he looked like a project yesterday. It was a Carl Engstrom and Mousse Gueye type of game for him yesterday. Hopefully it was a fluke.

The last 4-5 pages are burning my eyes.

It's July boys - keep a few hot takes in the chamber until November!

Canada defeated Japan in the FIBA U19 today. I cant find a box score yet. But going off thr highlights Bediako didn't do or play much. Highlights did show he had one dunk on a breakaway after a rebound. He caught it, turned, took one step and jammed it with two hands.

It's pretty incredible how far we have come. Once upon a time we had all convinced ourselves that Carl Engstrom would be a good basketball player because he was good at some other sport, and that clearly made him athletic. Now we're declaring a top 30 recruit to be no better than Carl Engstrom based on literally nothing more than a few minutes of play in an international U19 tournament.

I melt with the best of them about Alabama basketball but let's at least wait until we lose by 17 to Memphis first.

Not saying he's worse or the same, just saying that's the kind of performance he put up against Lithuania and that he doesn't look ready to start. Did you watch the game?

I watched parts of it, yes. He didn't play all that well when he was in the game. Making judgments about a player based on 10-15 minutes of foul trouble plagued basketball is ridiculous though. It's also not his regular team, everyone involved is 17-18 years old, and it's not like Lithuania is a bunch of scrubs. They have one of the best national team programs in the world.

Also quite a few of us have been much more conservative about Bediako in year 1 than some others. Especially early in the year. Hes uber talented but it may take a little bit to figure it all out.

I can say with confidence he's not Carl frickin Engstrom.

Also, just for full disclosure, the Japan-Canada box score is up on the FIBA website. Bediako had a decent, efficient game. 8pts, 5 rebounds, 5 blocks in 16 minutes on 100% shooting from the field and the line.

Meanwhile....Caleb Houstan scored 7 points on 1/10 3pt shooting. Good thing we let his scrub arse go to Michigan amirite?
