For those interested the SEC Tournament championship game just tipped on SECN. 10-5 Bama in the 1st half.

That 2 day stretch of Tennesse&LSU was maybe the most fun I’ve ever had watching Bama Basketball

I’ve already prepared myself that the non conference will most likely be rough. We are basically putting a brand new team out there. Tons of talent but they’ve never played together. Oats will have to figure out rotations and playing times. Hopefully we won’t have a meltdown with a slow start.

How many guys can we realistically expect to be in the rotation? About a month ago we were all looking at the roster and thinking every single scholarship guy could be a contributor. But i dont think I've ever seen a team with that many guys in regular rotation. Usually about 10-11 is all you can really expect.

We are still pretty stacked though. If you look at guys we can count on for solid minutes right now I would count the following:

JQ
Keon
Gary
Gurley
JD
Nimari
Miles

Then we should be able to get at least one player out of the KAH/Bediako/Tchikou/Rojas group.

Then you look at Holt and whoever we add in the portal. We will have 10 or 11 guys that are capable of olaying winning ball.

Is there any doubt we get a shooting/combo guard type in the portal?

The only hope Rojas really has is SEC play and I feel like that is hopeful at best.

I think Tchickou and Bediako will be regulars in the rotation.

KAH and Holt I am unsure about. I think we will see them at times, but not sure if they will be in a regular rotation once conference play rolls around unless we have some serious injury problems.

Also, I have no idea who our last spot will go to from the portal so none of this matters at this point really, but this is how I would view it for now.

We got to add another threat from 3.

Losing Primo and Shack has made us thin there.

JQ and Ellis are the only 2 reliable shooters we’ve seen in games.... and JQ is a liability on defense.

Gurley should be dependable from 3.

Miles and Holt HAVE to step up.Have to.

JD can’t Shoot. Nimari and Tchikou look good in drills so far but Nimari couldn’t do it in games last year and Everything I’ve read is Tchikou isnt moving well enough right now.

So for us to be successful we need Miles and Holt to step up and add a 3pt shooter

Agreed. Miles is the x factor at this point. If he is a guy who can become a regular and possibly even a starter, than we will be really good. He needs to figure things out on the defensive end. I think he can be close to as effective as Shack was last season, just based on what we saw from Miles last year offensively. He's got really high potential though.

Miles can easily be better that Shack imho.

ETA: he just needs to learn/understand team basketball a bit better.

ETA2: potential is unlimited compared to Shack though.

ETA3: i don't really feel like Shack is better than Miles right now tbh. They kinda feel like the same dude except Miles has way more potential because of his height, length and athleticism.

Actually, you know what - I think Miles is better than Shack already. Definitely needs to prove defensively. But everything else is already there with more room for improvement than Shack would provide.

Miles definitely has all of these things over Shack. What Shack had was work ethic, confidence, and knowledge of the system.

I think Miles has the confidence. He's got a quicker trigger than Shack and will shoot it from anywhere.

We all gotta feel like Oats will coach him up on the system.

Miles' biggest issue is turnovers, he averaged 8 turnovers per 40 minutes. If he gets that under control he can be really good.

True but I dont see him being in the role of primary ball carrier a lot next season. He was running the point in garbage time. He'll be tasked with being a slasher and shooter on the wing and giving good effort on the defensive side.

If Oats just wants to use somebody similar to how Herb would run the point last year I could see Miles doing some of that. At times he showed some good court vision as he can see and pass over the shorter guards.

Yeah. he probably won't be playing PG much next year so that should cut down a lot of the turnovers.

He's got a better handle than Petty and a lot of other guys we've had recently. Probably better at finishing at the rim than a lot of them too. Did anybody have a better dunk than Miles last year?

I'm not saying you're wrong - just playing devil's advocate.

We don't know that Shack's work ethic is better than Miles.

I feel like nobody has more confidence than Miles.

MIles has a year+ in the system now - and is a more naturally talented (with a higher potential) basketball player imo.
