I like what Oats said in that interview today about putting JQ and JD out front and let's see who can stay in front of them.

There won't be many that can.

He was coming off of the bench, but he wasn't playing less minutes. He averaged the same amount of minutes coming off the bench as he did when he started. And that's including the stretch where Oats didn't trust him to play defense and his offense sputtered in SEC play. He was playing a lot more toward the end of the season and in the post-season too while still coming off the bench.

by less minutes i mean in general from what most teams second leading scores get, not the amount jq played before he started coming off the bench.

Two Illinois assistants left and went to Kentucky, Kentucky may be the favorite to land Cockburn.

I wouldn't argue against that. But I'm biased because I am a Gary and Ellis stan.

I’m on the Gary bus with ya lol. I don’t think he could have possibly played any harder. I hope he has a great season

No, Jordan Harper

If Primo goes 1st round it’s an easy sell for Oats.

Yep. Primo going round one would be huge. JD next year would make three in a row, plus JQ could work his way in as well.

That is the first I have heard about him possibly reclassifying to the 2021 class.

Oats on UA's loaded schedule: 'We're not shying away from anybody'

The field for the 2022 SEC/Big 12 Challenge was announced last week, and the Alabama men’s basketball team is set to host defending champion Baylor in Tuscaloosa on Jan. 29.

Baylor is coming off a 28-2 (13-1 Big 12) season in 2020-21 that saw it march through the NCAA Tournament and end Gonzaga's perfect season with a dominant 86-70 win in the national title game. The Bears will have to replace a lot from last year's title-winning team, however, including former Alabama signee Jared Butler and expected lottery pick Davion Mitchell.

The two teams have met nine times with the Crimson Tide leading the series, 7-2. Alabama and Baylor last faced off in the SEC/Big 12 Challenge in 2019 in Waco, Texas, where the Bears won, 73-68. The Crimson Tide is 3-2 in the challenge, having lost to Oklahoma this past season, but holds a 3-0 record when playing in the event at home inside of Coleman Coliseum.

Alabama will now face three of the Final Four teams from this past season in Baylor, Gonzaga and Houston. The Tide will face Gonzaga in Seattle on Dec. 4 and host Houston. In addition, UA is also set to participate in the 2021 ESPN Events Invitational from Nov. 25-28 in Orlando. Other teams in the loaded field include Drake, Iona, Kansas, Miami (Fla.) and North Texas.

During a recent interview with the Crimson Tide Sports Network, Alabama head coach Nate Oats discussed the Crimson Tide’s already-stacked slate for the upcoming 2021-22 season.

“I’m about playing really good teams and getting exposed and getting better,” Oats told Roger Hoover. “That’s a non-conference game -- it’s not your typical non-conference game because it comes in the middle of conference play with the SEC/Big 12 Challenge. But we’re playing Gonzaga in Seattle, we’re playing Houston at home, we’re playing Baylor. We’ve got three out of the four Final Four teams from last year, so we’re not shying away from anybody.

“I’m looking forward to it. Even if they’re not all wins, I think they all make us better. As long as we’re getting better every game, exposing our weaknesses, turning around and get better at them and then put ourselves in a better shot to win the SEC, that’s what we’re about.”

Auburn Undercover message board about Shack Leaving:

quote:

He’s headed out west guys. Cali kid. In other news, they’re very much in spin cycle. And A close buddy of mine works with someone very involved in the day to day basketball ops at Bama. He said JD is the worst shooter on the whole team. Can’t make a 3 to save his life and it’s embarrassing. Almost like when he wasn’t dunking on everyone he wasn’t the greatest thing ever. He’s going to struggle mightily if he can’t figure out a jump shot with his modest frame.

quote:

Exactly what I have heard about JD. He is very athletic, but cannot shoot worth a lick. Also, seems like your friend is more realistic and objective about their team. I have a couple of UAT friends who are objective as well and they have flat out told me that their ceiling is an NCAA bubble team. To add, they’ve told me that their two big guys are really slow and will be dominated by any team who has a pulse in the front court, so I like our chances against them hahaha

quote:

He was basically the best player on an SEC championship team.

quote:

And Primo is gone officially. Hope Bama fans enjoyed last year, back to middle of the pack you go. It’s gonna be fun to watch Bruce and the boys run them off the floor

quote:

Y’all need to go read their thread on him leaving, absolutely hilarious. It went from them building their entire team around Primo and Shack next year to JD and Nimari being enough lmao. Their entire team ran on seniority and experience last year, now their best returning scorer is a guy who averaged 6 points a game.

When the frick did anyone say we were building the team around Shack?

Auburn had a PG last year that had one of the worst looking three point shots I had ever seen and it worked out OK for them. JD is a much better shooter than Cooper was.

Like I said before, UAT will be coming back down to reality this coming season. Had the most experienced and one of their most talented teams in 20 years and they couldn’t get past the Sweet 16. And again, I know UAT has talent on their roster, however, outside of JD no one else on their roster would start for us. We have legitimately 3 first rounders starting on our team and do not sleep on Wendell Green Jr. I think many Auburn fans are severely underestimating how good he is and will be this year. I’ve been trying to temper my expectations but I haven’t been this excited about any Auburn sport in the preseason since 2010.

Boy, are they in for a RUDE awakening
