Yea I see no reason that Gary would think about leaving. He's gonna spend the off season working on his shot and continue being a dog on the boards. He's gonna be one of those upperclassmen in 2 and 3 years that is an absolute glue dude.

I mean hell he was only a R-FR this year. I think people seem to be under the impression he is about to be a JR or SR.

Oh shite! Breaking news, Roy Williams just retired. That is the kind of blue blood program that is a threat to go after Oats. Maybe not after the recent new extension and big buyout but still....

I'll be honest, I don't think anybody is seriously attempting a run at Oats after 1 good season. I think that his track record isn't quite long or deep enough for blue bloods like UNC and any program less than that knows they don't have a shot to pluck him away.

I'd much prefer these jobs all come open now as opposed to in 1-2 years when he might have a 3-4 year high major track record that would really warrant concern (like Chris Beard currently has at TTU).

What was that program like before Miller got there? That matters more to me than some random appearance in ncaa tournament. Nobody knew who Dean Smith was when he got hired.

Nashville radio's first mention of a name to follow Roy was Nate Oats, mentioning him as a hot commodity.

It wasn't good, but it had a history of being good in the very recent past. They were also bad for Miller's first 5 seasons there.

I'm not saying Miller would be a bad choice, I just don't see Carolina as the "hire a mid major coach with some conference titles and hope he hits" type of job. It's a top 3-4 job in the country.

They'll probably contact his agent (like Indiana did) and have it shut down. He's not going to bolt after getting his contract reworked and putting endless effort into the upcoming recruiting class. His best years at Bama are ahead of him. Even though Oats is a competitor, I doubt he wants to follow Roy's footsteps and deal with unrealistic expectations. He'll eventually go off to a better job, but I think he'll stick here for a few years and make deep runs.

If I'm UNC, I'm going after Porter Moser.

He could also stay here for his whole career like Calhoun at UCONN, The Baylor coach, and Mark Few at Gonzaga.

Agree - I think the period of concern for losing Oats will be if we sustain success for 3-4 years. I'd be shocked if he left for anything right now. Doesn't mean it won't happen, but I'd be shocked.

Dean Smith was already on Frank McGuire's staff when he left for the NBA, and UNC was fricking awful for his first several years on the job. In today's climate he would have been fired in February of his 3rd or 4th season.

Apparently there is strong scuttlebutt that Hubert Davis is going to get the job, which could make sense. He's been on staff there since 2012 and these things end in a handoff quite frequently.

Pretty much, he seems like the perfect back up plan if they mess up the process.

Interesting the amount of folks on Carolina boards who are positive to the idea of Stackhouse.

I actually think he'd probably be really damn good there. He'd sign great players and all the coaches rave about his Xs and Os stuff.

Stackhouse probably doing everything he can behind the scenes to get that job.

Stackhouse would be in keeping with their hiring practices. They haven't made an outside hire who didn't have direct ties to UNC in almost 70 years. Granted they have only had 5 coaches during that time, but keeping it in the family is a huge part of UNC basketball's DNA at this point.
