will need someone else at the 5 with Sherrell.
Big Z from Arkansas/Kentucky is in the portal. He can shoot the rock. I think he lit us up pretty good this year.

If the 1.5m is true, it probably has a little bit to do with that. Just an absurd number for that kid that we would never have paid. A little concerning if that's the going rate for that level of prospect.
Honestly, that number is probably pretty consistent with his status. Apparently Dysbanta was around 5 million and we didn't back away from the recruitment. If we can get 3 really solid guys at 4.5 million total, that's probably going to be considered about the going to rate to be really competitive with the elite. Considering our incoming freshman class shouldn't have a monster price tag, gotta assume Bama has some money to spend

Big fan and think he'd be great in our system. Only downside is he's not a great rebounder. Pairing him with someone like Mo or Corey Chest would make a lot of sense.

From what I understand, that's more than triple what high-quality transfers we've landed have gotten. Estrada did an interview one time saying he got like 300 thousand or something like that. I think Cliff was probably the closest, but he had a much higher bidding war and I still think we didn't spend quite a million.

If that's the going rate the only way that makes sense to me for us not paying it is if we think we can use that money to keep Philon. Otherwise why would you not pay the going rate for the best available guard in the portal who played for your former assistant and grew up in your backyard?

That may be the going rate this cycle, but it hasn't been previously and is nowhere close to what we've been offering. Cliff has the highest NIL offer I've heard of in the Transfer portal and it was 2M from Georgetown. Not many others I've seen reportedly hit the 1.5M mark, and definitely not one coming from a smaller conference

We are two years removed from signing Estrada and that was the absolute first stages of Nil. In that same interview Estrada said he was offered 800,000 by Cincinnati. I loved Estrada, but it was no secret that he wasn't an above the rim guard with an elite shot. He was just a really solid all around basketball player who could do a great job playing around his athletic shortcomings.
He also mentioned something along the lines of paying Grant the most as a transfer and insinuated at that time it was 500,000. But NIL transfer portal is where money is going and that money is elevating quickly. Recruiting high school kids that aren't virtual lottery picks, knowing you will have to develop them is pissing in the wind in this new era

Never know, some folks take longer to develop. Look at Nimari and the guard j. Bradley.

If we're counting on outbidding bball big dogs then we better have the money. Otherwise we need to find a different route to compete. Be it looking hard for gems or international like Zags.

That may be true concerning the Achilles injury but there's too much technology nowadays and I've seen plenty return to form...

But there is where the problem lies. In todays recruiting world you pay big to land prospects, you develop them and deal with their shortcomings knowing the potential is there and then when they are close to reaching some form of being a really solid player they leave for the highest bidder. Pay for proven commodities or at least veteran experience. Developing freshman based on long term potential is just a bad long game that will cost far more in the long run than to just put money into immediate impact and rinse and repeat
