Herb's shooting deficiencies

The Pels shooting guru has already made some headway with Herb fwiw. His shot looks cleaner than it did last year. If he keeps progressing I think he's going to turn himself into a valuable commodity since he has pretty much immediately established himself as an elite defender. He does keep missing layups though. That might never change.

That's why I'm glad we're making it such a point of emphasis early in the year. Last year I think a big reason we were kinda hot and cold on offense was that we just weren't all that versatile. On hot shooting nights we could run anyone in the country out of the building, but when they weren't falling all we really had was dribble penetration to score in the paint. This year, so far, it looks like we should be able to score in the paint without our guards having to do all the heavy lifting. We're always going to take a bunch of 3s, but those looks will open up a lot more if teams know they need to camp a guy out in the paint.

Yep - between the option to just throw a lob to Bediako if he's not taken seriously and the option for JD/JQ/Ellis/Shack to drive the lane......you just cannot play an overly aggressive perimeter defense against us or we'll run past you and dunk, shoot layups or get into hot potato pass mode and shoot in rhythm wide open 3 pointers on every possession.

It just feels like our floor as an offense is much, much higher than it was last year.

And I mean he made great strides under Oats, too. He was just such a raw shooter (and overall offensive player) when he got here that he had tons of ground to make up.

He really is a special dude.

If that’s the case maybe he’ll stay another year to work his way into the lottery.

Tchikou is good but the problem is that he doesn't have college basketball experience yet in live action. He's a Freshman who needs games under his belt to build on experience. A guy with his height and skill doesn't come around often. I'm banking on him giving us quality minutes whenever he gets used to playing college basketball.

FYI - South Dakota State won @ Stephen F. Austin by 12 last night. KenPom has SFA finishing the year 20-10 (12-6), so that's a pretty strong road OOC win for SDSU.

That's a really damn good basketball team.

South Dakota State got a nice win yesterday against Stephen F. Austin. They're a good ballclub and we just broke their will in the 2nd half.

Luckily, we shouldn't need to rush him. We can bring him along slowly minutes wise and experience wise through the next couple of months and hope that he's up to speed and comfortable by late January/early February.

I mean those shots they were making the 2nd half when we went up 15-20 were ALL contested.

Typically I'd be pissed off about giving up 88 points to a mid-major, but yeah during the final 12 or so minutes they had to have made a dozen turnaround 15 foot jumpers and stepback 3s. If our offense wasn't dominating them we'd have been in some trouble. They are a really good team. Someone is getting fricked hard with that first round draw.

Have high hopes for Tchikou , but it’ll take some time. If he comes back on Tuesday he might be a force by late season. By tournament time,he and Bediako May be terrorizing people in the paint.
One can dream.

Yea, they were one of those rare mid-majors that comes in and has a ton of hype and leaves and you feel like it was 100% justified.

The last team/player I can remember like that was when Ja Morant came in with Murray. Heard all about him, was kind of like "yea, we'll see" then after the game was like holy shite that dude is not of this world.

Rothstein said we were crazy for starting the season with the two games we had and then kept us at #18 in his weekly poll.
