Sindarious Thornwell had 44 points and 21 rebounds in 56 minutes that game.
9/25 FG
1/7 3P
25/33 FT
33 FTA has to be pretty high on the list of most FTA in a game all time against us.

Nate Oats discusses what Jahvon Quinerly did to stand out on both sides of the floor
Alabama Crimson Tide head coach Nate Oats wanted to send a message on Tuesday by not placing point guard Jahvon Quinerly in the starting lineup. Quinerly responded in a positive way against the Vanderbilt Commodores, scoring 19 points and improving on the defensive side of the ball.
After the game, Otas talked about what Quinnerly did exactly to stand out on both sides of the floor. He said the point guard was able to put pressure on whoever he was guarding and pointed out how Quinnerly was only one of four players with positive defensive leverage.
“I thought he was into the ball,” Oats said. “That’s where he can really create some havoc on d(efense) is the ball pressure. I thought he was upping the ball pressure on their point guard, kind of repeated times, especially in the second half when we went on that big run. That to me is more where — it’s not like he necessarily took a big-time block or took a charge or anything like that just thought his overall effort, energy, making it harder for them to start offense was a lot better.
“As I look at this thing closer too, we only had four guys that had positive defensive leverage. Keon Ellis, Charles (Bediako), JQ, and Shack (Jaden Shackelford). Everybody else that played had a negative defensive leverage so for him to be one of those four guys after challenging them like we did, I thought he really answered the bell and I am proud of him.”
Nate Oats challenges Jahvon Quinerly
Earlier in his press conference, Oats specifically talked about the team challenging Quinerly to play better on the defensive side of the ball. The head coach cited a good performance against one of the best teams in the country, the Baylor Bears, and said he wants his star point guard playing like that on a nightly basis.
“We challenged him that his defense had to be better,” Oats said. “He had to play harder. We weren’t gonna be able to win big games if he didn’t give us better effort on defense. I thought he responded great. I thought his effort was way better. We showed him highlights of the Baylor game and I thought he was unbelievable defensively against (James) Akinjo. That’s how he want him playing and I thought he was a lot better tonight.”
During their run to the Sweet 16 last season, Quinerly was a huge part of the Crimson Tide’s success. If they want similar results this go-round in Tuscaloosa, the point guard will have to get back to the form from last March and replicate it on a nightly basis.

JQ was playing with an intensity level on both sides of the floor last night that I don't remember seeing all season.
He was playing HARD on defense, and you could see it - both on ball and off ball.

can't find that stat but most by Ala is
26 by Bob Andrews vs FSU in '64
21 would be the modern record by Richard Hendrix in 2008 vs Fla.

The UGA and Mizzou losses are truly baffling

Losing a game to Missouri was definitely disappointing, but losing to UGA was just flat out embarrassing imo.

Yep - the Georgia game is the one that was absolutely inexcusable. After losing at home to Ole Miss, there is a very legitimate chance they go 1-17 with their only win the entire season being against us.

The only team I could find in all of Division 1 College Basketball that has a better Point Per Shot number on Long 2s than 3s was Wagner. Manhattan and UIC were close enough where it was within the margins.
FG% * # of pts for shot = Pt Per Shot
Now, there are certainly various levels of "long two", obviously, but it is very clear why Oats and a lot more coaches are eliminating the 15+ 2 pointer. Teams generally shoot very similar percentages from long 2 and 3 (which makes perfect sense), and one of those gets you 1 less point. There just isn't any reason for it.

Can't win by eliminating the mid-range shot and taking a bunch of 3s. Ignore how successful these guys have been for years by doing both of those things.

With last nights win Alabama's key stat continues to show to be whether the opposing team shoots 50% from 2PT or not
Opponent shoots 50% or better : 3-9
Opponents shoots less than 50%: 15-1
4 of our 5 best 2PT% against figures have come in the last 6 games (Arkansas, State, Vanderbilt, Kentucky (home)).

I looked at the sec site today and I thought we were first. That must just be league games though I guess.

We may have taken the most 3s in total, but as a % of total FGs attempted we aren't. Which would make sense because we probably take more shots than Florida since we play faster.

First 9 games (through Houston)
- 8-1 record
- 49.7% 2PT FG against (#182 nationally)
- 28.0% 3PT FG against (#34 nationally) (we were getting lucky)
- 30.7% FT Rate again (#201 nationally)
- 28.4% Defensive Rebound Rate (#179 nationally)
We should have seen it coming. However, our offense was #6 nationally in efficiency and it was masking issues that blew up the next 1/3 of the season.
Middle 13 games (through @ Auburn)
- 6-7 record
- 51.8% 2PT FG against (#243 nationally)
- 34.1% 3PT FG against (#185 nationally)
- 37.3% FT Rate against (#308 nationally)
- 33.1% Defensive Rebound Rate (#316 nationally)
We weren't defending 2's, we weren't as lucky vs 3s, we fouled a ton, we gave up offensive rebounds. Nothing we did on offense was going to matter. It was still "good" (#19 country), but it had to be Top 5-10 level to pull out a lot of the close games we lost (Mizz by 6, Auburn by 4, State by 2, UGA by 6).
Last 6 games
- 4-2 record
- 41.9% 2PT FG against (#12 nationally)
- 37.9% 3PT FG against (#287 nationally) (super unlucky)
- 34.2% FT Rate against (#259 nationally)
- 33.1% Defensive Rebound Rate (#325 nationally)
We're still not great at keeping teams off the line or rebounding and teams have gotten hot shooting outside against us.........but we've been able to survive because we are defending the 2 so much better.

Those last 6 games indicators make me think we can make the sweet 16 if things fall our way.

Yep - and the 2 losses were hard fought battles against one of the 5-6 best teams in the country that we match up pretty terribly against (one of which we shot 3-30 from 3PT in).
