You guys are too caught up in emotional bs. The hunter/hunted shite is all media drivel. We’ll come ready to play, this is a nationally televised game against a team with 5 star talent. Our players see their players aau mixtape shoved down their throat, we’ll cover tonight.

Hoiberg rumored to be done at Nebraska. NCAA violations.

I know you're young but you'll learn that that "emotional bs" is a real factor. No less than tGOAT Saban himself has many times said you can only get all the way 'up' for so many games.
That effect can be even more pronounced in basketball where road arenas can be very intimidating.
Teams that can avoid the trap are the ones that go places. Tonight will go a long way towards telling if this team is in that group.

You wrote 3 paragraphs and said nothing. Maybe you’re too old to see we’re the team being disrespected here. 3.5 pt line when we’ve clearly been the better team. Our players hear the noise and they’ll come ready to play. You sound like a wannabe sports journalist saying whatever bullshite you can to hide the fact you have no substance whatsoever.

I don't think it has anything to do with emotions. I think it has almost entirely to do with Memphis and perhaps a physical lag with what is essentially a college back to back after an absolute war late Saturday night.
If Memphis comes out and folds - turns it over a bunch, snipes at eachother, plays selfish offensively, lets out get out in transition - we'll blow them out. If Memphis comes out and scraps then they could bog us down, because they have the athletic profile of the type of team who can do that if they are at their best and we are off a little.

They can scrap all they want. They have zero offense in the halfcourt. Their strengths are our strengths. You people are getting caught up in narratives. We’ll win going away tonight regardless of if Memphis plays their best or not.

No, I'm getting caught up in very tangible things.
- They are long and athletic and very switchable. They generally play good defense under Penny, though they've been hit or miss this year. They are excellent shot blockers (#2 in the country in block rate), and could cause issues for us if they can play disciplined and not have to help.
- They are an excellent offensive rebounding team, and they do it in the same way Houston did - with quickness. Houston kicked our arse with that, and Memphis has a similar athletic and stat profile as Houston. They could very much turn this into a one on one then slice to the rim and grab offensive boards type game, which won't be efficient in a shooting sense but can still work if you end up shooting 125% as many shots as your opponent.
- They run. It's how they want to play. They actually have played at a higher tempo this season than we have. So, they won't end up playing very much half court offense, thereby negating what they are bad at. Their offense in the halfcourt could end up being irrelevant if we end up playing a sloppy game (which we are definitely prone to do in terms of turning it over).
- We just played a war 72 hours ago with basically an 8 man rotation and it's certainly possible that we are forced to dip deeper into the bench because guys legs will not be fully there
In conclusion, shaddup.

Pretty much everyone here thinks we're probably going to win this, and unless Memphis has their best game of the season, easily. However, you're the only one young and dumb enough not to realize that there is a chance they could rally together and make use of all that talent Penny has bought, and win the game. I don't expect it, but I'm also not an idiot that thinks it's impossible.

It being at Memphis with that ugly floor is the only reason I’m worried. I feel like we could be ice cold in that ugly gym.

Everything y’all call me stupid for has ended up being right. I literally said earlier Memphis can give us a game if we’re not prepared but y’all gassing them up way too much. At least SOG has valid points, y’all just dick ride and can’t form an original thought for yourself

We should really play these guys more because they are somewhat close.
I can only remember playing them a handful of times. Everyone remembers the game Sexton was suspended. There was One year under Gottfried they fricking came here and destroyed us.

Preseason NIT 2005 - Cal's first really good Memphis team. Douglas Roberts and Dozier were freshman. They lost in the Elite Eight to UCLA (who we had lost to in the 2nd round).
We had a "Beat the Hell out of Auburn" party that night (the year of Sack Brodie) - like 5-6 of us went to that, drank heavily and then wandered over to the Coliseum (it was a late tip, maybe 9 PM like Houston was). It was definitely the only drunk basketball game I've ever been to

Alabama (1-1) trailed 48-32 at halftime and by as many as 20 in the second half before cutting the lead to eight late in the game, thanks mostly to the shooting of reserve Justin Jonus.
Jonus led the Tide with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. Jonus got all but two of his points in the second half. However, he said the difference was that the Crimson Tide defense couldn't stop Memphis.
"We didn't step up. We didn't play defense," Jonus said.

As much as anything, it just seems like a classic trap game. We’re coming off two huge wins, a top 10 ranking, playing a team on the ropes at their place, with another challenging game in CSU before we hit what could be a pretty difficult conference schedule.
Throw in the talent that Memphis has and the ugly losing streak for them recently, and I don’t think it would surprise anyone if they came out playing hard. I also wouldn’t be surprised if they looked like they have during the rest of their OOC schedule and we run them off the court, but still, until it happens, I’m expecting some of that talent to show up tonight.
I think we’ll control the game and pull away in the second half without much of a scare, but it’s easy to understand the concern for this game. Fortunately, Penny is a terrible coach and Oats should be licking his chops at the chance to beat these guys up. After all do the letdown talk this week, I’d be surprised if he didn’t hammer that home at practice and we came out flat.

I personally expect us to come out, run our stuff well, get them out of sorts, turn them over and basically has a 10-20 point lead for the last 25-30 minutes of the game.
If we are playing under control on offense and you can't make 3's it is nearly impossible to stick around with us. I think we will, and they can't, so I feel like it's going to take them shooting 45 free throws or some guy going nuts from deep for us to lose.
They aren't disciplined defensively, and we'll take advantage of that. We'll probably have some droughts where they play decent team defense and turn us over depending on our lineups, but on the whole I don't believe they can play 40 minutes of good, disciplined team defense against us.

It's the epitome of a trap game. I really don't understand why people pointing that out and being a bit apprehensive about it is so controversial.

They’ve never been the same since Chalmers drained that shot and they choked that Natty away. Then Cal left when the NCAA came knocking
