I am fully invested in the Clowney hype train. He is going to be the athletic, skilled big we all thought Tchikou was going to be.

pretty sure miles may still even start at that position this season, though between him and miller its pretty interchangeable.
Having Miles at the 4 in any lineup where Miles and Miller share the court wouldn't make much sense to me. Miller is longer and a much better shot-blocker. Him and Clowney at the 4 spot should be a pretty incredible rotation defensively.

Mediocre is putting it kindly but definitely agree. Our guards stopped no one and constantly made our bigs look bad because of all the collapsed defensive sets they allowed. With Clowney and Miller added to the cleanup crew, and Bradley, Burnett, and Welch replacing JQ, Shack, and JD, we should be much closer to our 2020-21 defense than our 2021-22 defense.

I said I wouldn't want Miles at the 4 if him and Miller were both on the floor. Miles at the 3 and Miller at the 4 makes much more sense to me.

That’s just semantics. We run 4 out 1 in, or a 5 out depending if Bediako is running the 5 or we go small with Clowney at the 5.

Does it really make much of a difference? If you're switching everything, which Oats seems to want to do if we can, they're both going to end up defending bigger stronger players and smaller quicker players at times.

No there’s literally no difference between the 3/4 if Miles/Miller were playing at the same time. They’d both be forwards on the perimeter. He’s playing the semantics game

AU just released their noncon schedule. They are the 129th D1 school out of 363 to release their non schedule up to this point.

We’ll get ours sometime within the next couple of weeks

i agree. technically speaking miller seems more adept to handle that position. its just with all the switching well be doing miles will see a fair amount in that spot as well, which does have the potential to be a thing of chaotic beauty if the helpside/scrambles are as crisp as they were with that 2020 team. absolutely, the design is there on paper.
pretty much. i honestly thought our bigs did pretty good considering the situation. certainly hustled their asses off atleast. will be fun to see all the different lineups oats comes up with to throw out there now. so much more versatility on both ends.

In a traditional basketball sense, I see what Bird is saying and agree with him on that. Miller is bigger and probably stronger and would theoretically handle a traditional PF body better defensively.
But with the system we run, I also agree with you that it won't matter as much because ideally we will be switching just about everyone 1-4 or at least 2-4. There also isn't many teams around the country that employ two "bigs" on the floor at the same time anymore anyway.
I don't know if it's semantics or just miscommunication, but I think you are both pretty close to the same opinion.

Alabama men’s basketball hosted RJ Johnson on campus Wednesday for an unofficial visit, one that yielded the Huntsville (Ala.) Grissom standout an offer from Nate Oats and company.
“It feels good,” Johnson said of his latest offer. “That hometown love is something different.”
Alabama joins programs like Georgia, LSU, and Wichita State that have also offered the No. 1 prospect — per 247Sports — in Alabama.
“The visit went pretty good,” he said. “Great to meet some of the guys like B-Milly, Stretch, and Jaden Bradley.”
Oats explained to Johnson what he liked about his game and why the staff wanted to offer.
“He liked that I was strong and physical and can play with or without the ball and guard one through four,” Johnson said.
With the offer in pocket now UA is going to be a serious contender for the in-state guard.
“The culture around,” Johnson said of his favorite part about the Tide.
Johnson had planned to announce a decision next week, with UGA trending. Now he plans to hold off for a bit.
“Sometime after Labor Day,” he said of when he’ll announce.
Johnson added that Bama is now “definitely” in his top two with Georgia.

Absolutely agree. But ideally you want to make the offense work for the switches instead of starting with a switched off defender.
For instance, Miller seems the better help defender as well as a better option for post defense. So if we ran up against Grant Williams 2.0 you'd want them to work to get the matchup they want (Miles on Williams) than give them the matchup right away. Even if there is no mismatch there, the further down you shift your best help defenders the more help defense they're able to provide given that they will likely start off defending a less talented ball-handler.
