i like primo too.

chances that the player testing the NBA waters comes back. I saw 99% chance of returning.

Unless his family needs the money and he plays in Europe.

I'm kind of surprised by all the Primo guesses. I think he's a very good 2-way player, but I don't think he's as offensively talented as others on this roster. My guess in terms of the top 5 scorers is...

1. Davison
2. Quinerly
3. Shackelford
4. Gurley
5. Ellis (predicting an increase in aggression as the tools and efficiency are definitely there)

Not saying it's not possible Primo is our leading scorer, but I find it hard to have him as the likeliest leading scorer.

I love Primo in the Robin role, but I don't know if he's ready to be Batman. When he is the secondary option, he plays really really well.

Apparently the Primo crowd does not care for our opinions

Here's my newest guess as to the lineup and rotation...

Starters:

1. Davison
2. Shackelford
3. Ellis
4. Gurley
5. Tchikou

Rotation:

6. Quinerly
7. Gary
8. Primo
9. Bediako
10. Burnett

Quality Depth:

11. Miles
12. Holt
13. KAH
14. Rojas (hopeful he isn't utilized strictly because of the staff's relationship with him; would be Junior-esque of them with this roster)

This is the first time where I refuse to do a guess at the minutes for each. So hard to do with this much talent. I hated shifting Gary to the bench, but I have to believe that the staff has an extremely high opinion of Gurley to push Wilson and his potential out. I also have a hard time not seeing Tchikou as our 5, if healthy, because of the versatility he brings on offense combined with the rim protection on defense.

I think you nailed the rotation with the exception of swapping 3 and 8

Josh Primo is NOT coming off the bench lol stop. How does a guy who started as a Freshman and looks to only get better lose his spot? Same for Shack, he’s started 2 seasons & was our leading scorer. He’s starting.

PG: Davison/Quinerly/Miles
Wing: Shackelford/Burnett/Holt
Wing: Primo/Ellis
Wing: Gurley/Gary/Rojas
Big: Tchikou/Bediako/Ambrose-Hylton

Because Ellis was the best all-around player on the team the last 20 games of the season.

^ Well then Ellis should take Gurley’s spot like that, but Primo isn’t coming off the bench.

I don’t think we will have traditional “starters” on this team per say. I think the rotation changes on a nightly bases depending on our opponent and how each player is performing.

Last season we were kind of tied up with a lack of bigs so the rotation was a little different, but this season we can really work it around a lot game by game.

Primo very well could start, but shifting Ellis to the 4 would be a waste of his defensive ability in my opinion. He's not as versatile of a defender as Herb is. He doesn't have the length he has nor the shot blocking ability he has. Most of his minutes are better served at the 2-3 where he can lock his man down and disrupt the passing lanes.

Quinerly was arguably our best player down the stretch of the year and he was coming off the bench... Starting isn't what should be valued. It's minutes. And Primo will have plenty of those off the bench if Oats has him start the game there...

I think this is a possibility especially at the beginning of the year when figuring things out, but once we're settled in I would hope we'd have a somewhat consistent rotation. Having some consistency with who you are playing with is very beneficial to on-court chemistry.

Yes I definitely think by the time SEC play picks up good we will have a solid starting 5, but a benefit of having a roster like this is how it allows you to play the hot hand at the right time. I could see Gurley struggling early to fit in with the guys, even JD struggling to play team ball where he was used to doing it all early, then by mid season those guys are regulars in the starting rotation.

It's still kinda difficult to know exactly how Oats will handle a roster this deep. This past season he was limited to no more than a 9 man rotation with Tchikou out for the year, Bruner breaking down, and KAH and Miles just not being ready for serious minutes. By the end we were down to an 8 man rotation since Rojas just wasn't capable of giving us good minutes. Going from that to having 10+ guys good enough to get major minutes will be a big challenge for the staff.

Coach Oats has said that who starts is not as important as who is on the floor at the end. Perhaps the conversation should be about who will be on the bench with 5 minutes left to play.

I could be wrong, but I don't see this as an issue. When Davis has played on better teams (AAU, All Star Games) he's been praised for his passing ability. For his High School team, as you mentioned, he was forced to take most of the shots because his team was much better for it.

That's definitely the more complicated question. You have to think Quinerly is in that group.

My guess would be...

Quinerly, Davison, Ellis, Tchikou and one of Shackelford/Primo/Gary/Gurley dependent on the situation.

It's an incomplete answer, but the only one I can give at the moment

Biggest hurdle next season? Keeping everyone happy with their minutes.

and in his Zoom the other day he said by conference play this year he wants to be down to an 8 or 9 man rotation and doesn't like playing more than that.

Said in OOC he will try to play a lot of people.

There are gonna be 4 or 5 people that dont get a lot of minutes once conference play starts.
